Juanita M. Levy ("Juanie" as she was affectionately known) was born May 1, 1927 to Joseph and Catherine Jarvis in Farrell, PA. At an early age the family moved to New Castle, PA. It was there, that she along with her favorite cousins attended school and enjoyed many family gatherings.
After graduating from high school, she became employed at the local china factory (applying the 14 carat gold trim, as she would let you know when speaking of her employment).
A tall dark handsome man from a neighboring state began courting the fun loving beauty and romance began. John Henderson and Juanita were married and he moved her to Youngstown Ohio. To this union were born three daughters. Stephanie Washington (LaVesta), Denise Howze (Robert), both of Atlanta and Juanita Swain who preceded her in death.
Juanita held many positions in her lifetime. She was certified and worked as an insurance agent, a dental hygienist and finally, settled on a career as a librarian at the main library, in Youngstown, Ohio.
After becoming established in her career and with growing daughters, Juanita met and married Wayman C. Levy. The couple was married nearly fifty years before his passing in 2011.
Juanita was a devout Catholic, serving at Saint Columba Cathedral in Youngstown, Ohio before moving to Atlanta Georgia and joining Saint Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in the historical West End district. During her membership, she was a lifetime member of the Knights of Peter Claver Ladies Auxiliary, a lector, an intercessor and an altar server.
Her social and civic activities included: The National Council of Negro Women (lifetime membership), Silver Sneakers (exercise group), and NAACP member. Juanita was a known health guru, always prepared to give a remedy for whatever ailed you. She had an interest in exercising, she was an avid reader, a cookbook contributor, a stickler for writing notes and letters, keeping her close friendships and relationships vibrant, traveling, entertaining, and an overall lover of life.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her two daughters, seven grandchildren, (Benjamin, Catherine, Christiaan, Taylor, Clarence, Arielle and Ava), and seven great-grandchildren (Eve, Chloe, DaMonte, Aziah, Laquan, LyRiq and Karter). Juanita also had friends here in Atlanta and throughout the country who had become like family to her whose hearts are saddened by the loss but full because of the delight of experiencing her.
