Jeanette Booker Lee, affectionately known as "Duchess", "Jenny "and "Nana" was born in Atlanta, GA on June 1, 1946, the second of nine children, to the late John David Booker, Sr. and Hattie Pearl Booker. Through the nurturing of her mother, grandmothers, and aunts, Jeanette grew to become very creative, independent and organized.
Jeanette attended Grove Park Elementary School and later graduated with the Class of 1964, from Washington High School. A few years later, she met and married Alvin Lee and through that union had two children, Alvin "Denorris" and Yadonnis. She lived in Atlanta all her life, but loved to travel and show her children how to see the world on a budget.
Jeanette became a member of New Hope Baptist Church with her family at an early age. She grew up there, faithfully singing in the choir and working tirelessly as a member of the Building Committee as well as on a number of projects for the church. After her pastor, the late R.N. Martin passed, she started visiting other churches but her membership always remained at New Hope.
Jeanette went on to work for the Internal Revenue Service, the U.S. Postal Service and then landed her career job at Hewlett-Packard in 1971. She always set the bar high for herself. While working full-time, she put herself through three years at Georgia State University studying Gerontology, the study of the elderly. She also went on to get her Real Estate license and was able to represent herself in the purchase of her home. After 31 years of service at Hewlett-Packard, Jeanette retired, but this did not slow her down. She would work in her yard from sun up to sundown which showed in her impressive plants and shrubs. She stepped in to help with taking care of her grandchildren. She would take them on overnight trips to the cabins, field trips to the lake to feed the ducks, day trips to places like the Tennessee Aquarium and group outings to the museum as well as the opera to make sure they became "well-rounded".
Throughout her years Jeanette touched the lives and hearts of many. Jeanette made her heavenly transition peacefully on June 20, 2014. She is preceded in death by her brother 11ilton. Jeanette is survived by her two children, Alvin "Denorris" Lee (K.aniya) of Union City, GA and Yadonnis Lee Tucker (Emmett) of Fairburn, GA; six grandchildren: Courtney, Jordan, Jada, Johnathan, McKencie and E than; seven siblings: John "Jr. Boy" Booker (Faye), Jacqueline "Jackie" Booker Bennett, Emanuel Booker (Monica), Michael Booker, Winifred "Tootsie" Booker Thomas, Winston Booker and Patricia Booker-Hicks (David) and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
