Irene Ceanna Greenhouse Knox was the first of six children born to the union of J. D. and Alma Greenhouse, November 5, 1920, in Marksville, Louisiana. The family moved to Alexandria, Louisiana and Irene graduated from Peabody High School in 1939. She accepted Christ at a very early age. She was honorably discharged from the Army of the United States as a Staff Sergeant W.A. C. section 1.15601h Service Command Unit, on December 30, 1945.
She went to Chicago, Illinois to attend the American Academy of Art and Dress Design, the Metropolitan School of Tailoring where she learned and excelled at men's tailoring. She later devoted over thirty years of service to the Metropolitan School of Tailoring as an Instructor. She met William in a Sunday School Class of the Greater Saint John Church Baptist of Chicago. She was united in holy matrimony to Mr. William Vanderbilt Knox on June 27, 1948 by Reverend C. N. Ellis. They were married over fifty years when William passed in May, 1999. They had a very happy life together. They spent fifty years spoiling each other. As a member of Greater Saint John Church Baptist, she served as the Treasurer of the Service Guild for over thirty years.
Irene and William moved to Atlanta in December, 1997 to be near her family. They lived with their goddaughters, Irene and Juleen with help from Dottie, Burnell and Terrence. Thanks to you for your love! She leaves to cherish her memory, two sisters, Mrs. Dottie J. Binns and Mr. and Mrs. Sylvester
Thompson (Burnell); goddaughters, Mr. and Mrs. Christopher Stegall (Irene), Ms. Juleen F. Jackson
(Mr. Michael Edwards) and Ms. Susan Smith; godson, Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Grimble, Ill (Tres); and a host of nieces and nephews.
TO MY FAMILY I Thought of You and Said A Little Prayer! This morning when I awakened and saw the sun above, I softly said, "Good Morning. Lord, bless everyone I Love!" Right away I thought ofyou and said a little prayer that He would bless you specially and keep you free from care! I thought of all the happiness a day could hold in store: I wished it all for you because no one deserves it more. I felt so warm inside, my heart was all aglow. I know GOD heard my prayer for you, He hears them all you know!!!
LOVE, Irene
