Iona J. King known as "Onie" to some and "Big Mama" to others, was born July 21, 1911, in Eatonton, Georgia to the late Mr. Sidney and the late Mrs. Mabel Jordan. Iona was married to the late John E. Reese, to this union was born a daughter, Johnnie Mae. John E. Reese proceeded her in death, she later remarried James King.
In 1963, Sister King joined Turner Monumental A.M.E. Church where she was a dedicated friend and devoted church member. She served on various boards of the church, such as: Senior Missionary Society as chaplain, Auxiliary Board #1 as chaplain, and a Class Leader.
Sister King will be remembered for her inspiring prayers and wise counseling to both young and old. Many will miss her delicious treats such as fruitcakes, cookies, tea cakes, egg custards, and sweet potato pies made at Christmas time. She was always willing to be of service to others and offer a helping hand whenever and wherever needed.
Sister King leaves to cherish her memories and rejoice in her homegoing: a devoted daughter, Mrs Johnnie M. Mincey; 4 siblings: Bennie L. Whitfield, Johnnie Jordan, Helen Maddox, and Elease Jordan; and a host ofother nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, extended family members and friends.
---BELOVED PRAYER OF IONA KING----
Search me 0 God, and know my heart. Try me and know my thoughts, and
see ifthere be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way of everlasting.
Lord, I know that your love is eternal. Give me hope for a great new day. So for myselfand all of my friends, I ask you to walk in front of us as a guide, behind us for protection and beside us as our companion. Thankyou Father. In Jesus name. This is my Prayer. Amen
