MELVIN EUGENE JONES affectionately called "Genie" by family
was born May 6, 1936, in Philadelphia, PA to the late Rev. Larkin Callaway Jones and Mrs. Clara Bell Jones.
He was the eighth of ten siblings. He was preceded in death by three brothers, L. C. Jones, Jr., Rev. Dr. James A. Jones and William Leon Jones; two sisters, Vivian J. Longino and Erma J. Miller and one daughter, Lastrena Parks Humphries.
He attended public schools in New York, Macon and Atlanta, GA. He graduated from Booker T. Washington High School, Atlanta, GA, in the class of 1954 and was an active alumnus. He served in the United States Army from 1959 to 1961. He was employed by General Motors, Capitol Airlines and Yellow Freight Line from which he retired.
On Wednesday, September 26, 2007, God knew best and took away all of his pain and gave him eternal rest.
He leaves to cherish his memories a loving and devoted wife, Mrs. Dorothy (Gwen) Parks Jones; his children from the union to Joyce Jones: Reginald Jones, Gregory (JoAnne) Jones, Donna Metts and William (Vickie) Jones; his children from this union: Vanessa (Ronald) Robbins, Valencia (Ronnie) Epps, Larry Reginald Parks, Payson Parks and Jacqueline (Marcus) Long; two brothers, Herbert (Harriett) Jones (New York) and Robert (Letty) Jones (California); two sisters Lillian Allen (Indiana) and Minnie Haynes (New Jersey); twenty-one grandchildren, one great grandson, one special great granddaughter "Nia" and a host of nephews, nieces, family and friends.
