John Robert Jones was born on April 1, 1942 in Clayton County, Georgia. He was the eighth child born to Susie Jones and the late George A. Jones. His oldest brother, Willie "June" Jones, preceeds him indeath. He attended public schools in Clayton County.
At an early age Robert, as he was lovingly called, joined the Flint Ridge Baptist Church in Fayetteville, Georgia, under the leadership ofthe late Rev. Henley, after confessing Christ as his personal Savior.
On August 19, 1967, he was united in Holy Matrimony to Jerrie Pittman and to this union two children were born: Venessa and Russell.
Robert was an OTR driver for five years before he married. Afterwhich he worked for Southern Railway for over 30 years before his health began to decline.
Robert was a creative and hardworking man who loved talking to people and never met a stranger. He possessed a light that drew people to him, and made brighter any gathering he attended. He had a passion for working outside in his yard and was famous for his bountiful vegetable gardens and beautiful flowerbeds, often being awarded "Yard ofthe Month" by the George High Community Association.
After a lengthy struggle with his declining health, surrounded by his family, the Lord sent his angels to carry him home on Wednesday, June 9, 2004.
