Lila Maude Dulaney Johnson was born on June 30, 1934 at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia to Wallace and Vinita Dulaney. She was the first born and only girl of four children.
She grew up in Statham, GA where she attended the public school system.
Lila joined the Barber Creek Baptist Church at an early age, and served faithfully on the usher board, deaconess board and mother board, until her health failed. She was also a member of Eastern Star Chapter 9.
Lila was always an entrepreneur, and a very smart woman, working two jobs simultaneously most of the time. She was a licensed cosmetologist, a beauty salon owner, and also an in-home caregiver.
In 1978, she married Mr. Collin Johnson, and it was a beautiful marriage. They accomplished a lot together, and he allowed her to spread her wings.
Her living was not in vain; she accomplished everything she set out to do. She was a visionary and planner. After returning to Athens from Oklahoma City in 1976, she built a home on Epps Bridge Road, where she opened her first beauty salon in her basement. Later, she opened Hair Affair Beauty Salon. She was also an excellent provider - she put her two daughters through Spelman College and taught them the meaning of hard work. Nothing made her prouder than the success of her children and grandchildren.
Lila was a giver and had a very bright personality. She had a sense of humor that always kept her environment lively and won her many friends and favor. This was obvious during her illness when nurses at the rehab center would compete to be her therapist. She worked very hard and had nice things, but was amazingly generous, and would give you the shirt off her back. She loved to cook and share holidays with family and friends. She was always willing to help, and would go above and beyond to help a loved one.
Lila did everything big. She had big ideas, a big house, big cars, big dinners, and especially big hats. Lila got what she wanted, and never made excuses. She simply set the goal, and before you knew it, it was done. She was an inspiration and an example to follow. She was happy with her life.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father; her step-father, Rev. Joseph Sims, Jr.; her brothers, Joe and William Dulaney and aunts, Lila Bradley and Consievella Ellington.
She leaves to mourn her passing her devoted and caring husband, Mr. Collin Johnson, two daughters, Verdita (Harvey) Monk, and Juanita Craft, four grandchildren, Tevie Monk, Kyle Monk, Sierra Lloyd, and Alexander Lloyd, one remaining brother, Walter (Gladys) Dulaney, one aunt, Mattie Hawkins; her dear friends Daisy Kenny, Linda Elder, Betty Mack, and Alice Daniel, many nieces, nephews, and friends.
"I won 't die rich and I won 't die tired, but I will die with a satisfied mind. " - Lila Johnson

God looked around His garden Andfound an empty place
He then looked down upon the earth, And saw your precious face.
He put His arms around you And lifted you to rest;
God's Garden must be beautiful, He always takes the best.
He knew thatyou were suffering, He knew that you were in pain. He knew thatyou'd never ever
Get well on earth again.
So He closed your weary eyelids And whispered (/Peace be thine."
Then He took you to Heaven With Hands so gentle and kind.
It broke our hearts to lose you, Butyou did not go alone,
For part of us went with you The day God welcomed you home.

To everyone that supported Lila throughout her extended illness and for their comforting acts of sympathy extended to us during our bereavement. We shall be eternally grateful for your kindness and love. We pray God's blessings upon you.
