Celestine Smith was born on August 10, 1934 in Atlanta, Georgia in the Old Fourth Ward, to the late Charlie and Rosia M. Smith. She was the second of three children born in this family. She was blessed to have three siblings from her father. She was educated in the Atlanta Public School System. As a young woman, she accepted Christ in her life. At the age of seventeen, she married the love of her life, Mr. Felton Jenkins. Their union was blessed with five lovely children, twenty beautiful grandchildren, and twenty-seven wonderful greatgrandchildren. They were married for sixty-five years.
Mother Jenkins worked on various jobs during her working years. She worked for Norman Nursing Home for many years before she retired. She was a hard working, dependable mother. She was affectionately known as J'/Sister, II Aunt Tine", uLestine", and IICeles" to her family and friends.
Mother Jenkins was introduced to the Honorable Bishop W. F. Lucas; he introduced her to the Lord Jesus Christ over fifty years ago. She was a member of the Senior Choir and served on the Mother Board.
Mother Celestine Jenkins peacefully transitioned from her earthly vessel into eternity on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at DeKalb Medical Center in Decatur, Georgia. Her loving daughter, Claudette was with her when she made her transition. She was preceded in death by her son, Felton Jenkins, Jr.; one sister and two brothers. She leaves to cherish her memory, her devoted husband, Mr. Felton Jenkins, Sr.; four loving daughters, Mother JoAnn Harris (Donald), Mother Claudette Boyd (Irvin), Mother Paulette Parlor (Timothy), and Ms. Zelphyr Scott; twenty grandchildren, twenty-seven great-grandchildren; her loving sisters, Mother Bettye Davenport and Mrs. Alice Odom of Detroit, Michigan; sisters-in-law, Mrs. Catherine Smith, Mrs. Iva Wilborn, and Mrs. Annette Winfrey; special cousin, Mrs. Christine Whitaker; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends, and all of the Saints of the Lucas Temple True Church family.
