Ms. Clara James, a native of Charleston, West Virginia, has resided in Marietta, GA since 2011. Prior to that she resided in College Park, GA. Clara previously moved from Memphis, TN to begin retirement after 15 years in government service.
Clara received her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from West Virginia State College Institute and took other courses related to her field at City College of New York. Clara married Leroy James and together they had two children, Carlton Leroy and Karen Renee, both of whom adored their mother and over the course of their lives and hers were never far from their mother. As the wife of an Army Chaplain and officer in the United States Army, Clara audited several courses at the Presbyterian Theological Seminary, Louisville, KY, in the field of counseling. Clara faithfully supported her husband in the U.S. and abroad. She taught her children through the example of her life by managing a household that reflected Christian values. She also modeled Christian service and hospitality to her children.
Clara committed her life to Christ at age eleven. She has been a member of Ben Hill United Methodist Church since 1996. At Ben Hill, she was a devoted member of the Couples in Christ Sunday School Class, Ben Hill Jewels and Partners, Ben Hill Hospitality Ministry, and for several years was on staff as an administrative assistant. When illness required that Clara relocate north to Marietta, GA, she was adamant that her tithes continue to go to Ben Hill and yet she also felt compelled to ?bey the call to be active at a local church. She adopted New Beginnings United Methodist Church, where the Rev. Scott Brown is pastor and the congregation serves as the hands and feet of Jesus; they are friends and family to the James/Price/Hilton families.
Clara's favorite things to do were to be with her family, make handmade greeting cards, genealogy, cooking and traveling.
Clara is survived by her son Carlton Leroy James; her daughter Karen Renee Hilton; her grandchildren Jimmy, Rachel and Hannah; her former spouse Leroy James; her nieces Andrea and Carol; her sorors of Alpha Kappa Alpha, Inc., her loving classmates from Garnet High School; her crafting families at the Bowden Senior Center and Archiver's Scrapbooking Store in Marietta, GA; her devoted friends at the Genealogy Society; and the scores of "kids" and closest friends that are too many to name here.
