Valerie Denise Rowe was born on February 29, 1956 to the late Thaddeus E. Sr., and Alberta Scipio Rowe in LaRochelle, France. She was third child of six. On Monday, March 28, 20161 God called Valerie's name and beaconed her to come be a flower in His b~autiful garden.
Valerie attended the schools of Lexington District Two and graduated: from Brookland Cayce High School in 1974. Valerie was elected as the flrst black cheerleader for the Bearcats. She attended the University of South Carolina and received a Bachelors of Art in History Education and Masters in Library Science. Valerie holds historical measures at USC, including being the flrst black cheerleader.

passion for reading and sharing good books with
others-especially children-blossomed into a thirty-Ave year
career as a librarian. Through her love for books, the Lord
blessed her to work for two of the best library systems in
the southeast. She worked for twenty-one years for the
Atlanta-Fulton Public Library system in Georgia. In 2003,
she returned to West Columbia and began a thirteen year
career at the Richland County Public Library system.
Through her career, she had been an active member of the
American Library Association, the Public Library
Association, Black Caucus of the American Library
Association, South Carolina Library Association and
National Advisory Council for the School of Library and
Information Science at the University of South Carolina. In
2006, Valerie received the Living Legacy Award.
Valerie joined Turner Memorial AM.E. Church at an early age. She played the piano and organ through her teenage years. Valerie moved to Atlanta and connected
herself to Saint Phillips A.M.E. Church. She worked wtth the
children's choir and blessed those she carne in contact with through God's music and His word. But the love for Turner A.M.E. burned in her heart. She left Atlanta after twenty-one years and relocated back to West Columbia and joined her 'beloved' Turner. She began working with various auxiliaries,
choirs. and training a new generation of musicians. Valerie
hefd many positions and titles at Turner: President of Local Women's Missionary Society and Women's Empowerment Ministry, Church School Superintendent, Steward Board, Children's choir director, Bible Study teacher and Woman of the Year.
Jn September l980, Valerie married the 1ove of her life, Eugene E. Jackson, Sr., and they were blessed with three sons.
Valerie was a devoted and proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated for over forty years. She was a member of the Columbia Alumnae Chapter, where she held many leadership roles including Chair of Membership Services and a member of the Nominating Committee.
Valerie was a gifted pianist, award winning knitter and crocheter. Valerie surrounded herself with cultural events and shared this love for the theater and cinematography She poured her love into countless children &om her church and family. She enjoyed traveling for her job to various workshops, fairs and conferences and also for personal pleasure with family and friends. Her most treasured excursion was returning to her birthplace,' LaRocheJle, France. Va1erie believed that it was more of a blessing to give than to receive. It blessed her more!
Valerie was predeceased by her son, EmOJj' Ezell.

Jesse Jackson; her loving daughter-in-law, Donna Nicole Jackson, her beautiful granddaughter, Emery Grace
Jackson, all of Atlanta, Georgia; her sister, Pamela R.
(Scott) Sanders of West Covina, California; her
brothers, Thaddeus E. (Carolynne) Rowe, Jr., of Chapin,
South Carolina; Leonard C. (Devonna) Rowe, Sr., of Churchville, Maryland; Wendell E. Rowe and William 1.
Rowe, both of West Columbia, South Carolina; her aunts, Blossom Hampton, Lorine S. Anderson, Lizzie Scipio and Mary Scipio; her undes, Eugene Anderson, Jr., Edward, James, Harry and Loman Hampton; her nieces, Brandolyn Scott, Ashley Rowe, Jasmine Rowe, and Charisse (Charles) Ashe; her nephews, Leonard (Veronica) Rowe, Jr., Thaddeus (Sasha) Rowe, 111, Enoch Rowe, lrvin Rowe, Aaron, ~yan and lsaiah Sanders, and Shomari (Courtney) Evansr seven grand nieces and three grand nephews; Godchi1dren, Rev. CJ Qane11e) Butler, Shauntee (Calvin) Zeigler, and LoriS. Minor; her
best friend of over 50 years, Henrietta Taylor, host of
loving cousins and specia1 friends.
