Mrs. Hazel C. Jackson (Mama Hazel) was born to the late Mr. and Mrs. George Cannon. She received her formal education in the Fulton County School System and
graduated from Booker T. Washington High School. She
also graduated from The Canaline School of Cosmetology. She was a practicing cosmetologist and enjoyed a rewarding and productive career for many years until she retired.
Hazel Eleanor Cannon married the late Deacon Deward James Jackson, Jr. and to this union one daughter and one son were born, Florence and Larry. Mama Hazel, a natural nurturer, dedicated her entire life to loving and caring for her family.
Uniting with Christ at a very early age, she faithfully and prayerfully served on many auxiliaries, including the Gospel Choir, Matrons Society and the Deaconess at Friendship Baptist Church. She later united with Christians For Change Baptist Church where she served on the Deaconess and Mothers' Board. Her health began to decline shortly after uniting with Christians For Change but her sweet spirit and love for Christ cGntinued to flourish. Mama Hazel brought joy and laughter to all those who encountered her. She enjoyed being around others and in return was a joy to others. She thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her friends at the Alzheimer's Services Center where she led the daily prayer, sang hymns and became involved with arts and crafts.
Mama Hazel leaves to cherish her precious memory, two children, Dr. Florence J. Bell and Mr. Larry J. Jackson; two granddaughters, Mrs. Melva Bell Robertson (Dereko) and Mrs. Brittany J. Bivines: one great-grandson, Robert Bivines, Jr.; three sisters, Mrs. Susie Tate, Dr. Sara Sealing (John) and Mrs. Hilda Walker; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
