At 1:38 a.m. on June 01, 2011 a standing ovation was presented to Deacon Askew Jackson Jr. as he was welcomed into throne of heaven. There to greet him were his mother, Mother Lucille Barns formally of Stockbridge, Georgia and his father, Deacon Askew Jackson, Sr. formally of Hogansville, Georgia what a gracious celebration it was for all.
Askew was united with Wheat Street Baptist Church at a very tender age, under the leadership of Dr. William Holmes Borders where he was a Boy Scout and Junior usher. While he attended Young elementary school, Askew Jackson Sr. provided him with entrepreneurial skills in marketing, salesmanship, and collections in the Newspaper business that eventually led to a successful fifty year career with the Adanta Daily World as well as many dog bites. Askew graduated from David T. Howard High School where he played in the band. He then enrolled in Morehouse College, where he made life-long associations and became known as "Q". While at Morehouse he was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War era in which he was promoted to Sergeant. Honorably discharged from the army in 1965, Askew gained employment at the United State Post Service. He retired as the employee assistant personal manager, after twenty-eight years of service. In the spring of 1993 he married the love of his life Virginia R. Jackson. Their common interest in helping people, mosdy victims of substance abuse, led to the formation of Viewpoint of Metro Adanta. Which provided housing and counseling for pregnant women, homeless veterans and former prisoners. He also served as president of the Georgia Addictions Councilors Association as well as serving on the accreditation board. Askew joined Ben Hill United Methodist Church with his wife where he served as an usher, president of the Male Chorus, finance committee and various other positions. He was also affiliated with the Masonic Lodge. He is survived by his devoted wife, Virginia; sons, Brent, Charles (Tracy), and Michael (Ronda); daughter, Elaine (Kent); grandchildren, Niketa, Levon, Shanika, Frankie, Shantel, Michael, Rose, Megan, Eric, India, Stone, I<oldie, and Shun; brother, Eugene (Mary) Jackson; in-laws; many cousins; relatives and friends.
Luke 10:27 best describes Askew's affection for the lord and mankind. ''And he, answering, said, Have love for the L.ordyour God with allyour heart and with allyour soul and with allyour strength and with allyour mind; andforyour neighbour asforyourself."
