Today we celebrate the life and legacy of a man who was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew him.
B ernard "Doball" Huntley was born November 22, 1959 to the late Bessie B. Johnson and the late Raleigh V. Huntley in Atlanta, Georgia.
Bernard attended the Atlanta Public School system where he was a student at Pryor Street Elementary. He graduated from Hoke Smith High School in 1977. While in high school, Bernard worked for Romper Room Educational Series and was often seen televised with Miss Lori. After graduating from high school, Bernard was employed at the Atlanta Airport, Mick's Restaurant at underground Atlanta, The Georgia Dome, Georgia Tech and most recently worked with a mentoring program, "Empowering Men and Women on the Move" with a very special friend, Miss Bennett. Bernard aided Miss Bennett with reintroducing men and women back into society and the work force.
Bernard had a heart of gold. He always wanted to make sure that you had a "great time." He LOVED to entertain, was reliable, never met a stranger and was generous to a fault. He opened the doors of his home to family and friends in need. He desired to help others and would literally give the shirt off his back. Bernard loved contemporary gospel music (his favorite song was You're Bigger by Jekalyn Carr) as well as R&B, had a green thumb for growing plants, an eye for decorating, and enjoyed cooking.
Bernard departed this life on January 4, 2017.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Bessie B. Johnson; father, Raleigh V. Huntley; sisters, Shirley Huntley, Yowanda Johnson and Susan Ellis-Jones; brothers, Larry Johnson and Rickey Huntley.
Bernard leaves to cherish his fun loving memories, a very special niece Crystal Ellis; a very special great nephew, Christian Ellis; siblings, Jerry Johnson, Bobby Johnson, Janet Crawford, Johnny Johnson (Angela), David Ellis (Charlotte), Yolanda Ellis, Jeptha Ellis, Betty Ann Johnson, James Huntley, Henry Smith, Jr. (Voncia), Beverly Leverett (James), Joseph Strickland, Waymon Strickland, Sylvia Strickland, Cindy Pealer (Alvin), Robin Rhodes (Anthony), Miriam Johnson (Peter), and Georgia Ellis; a group of special friends he called "The Circle", and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Family and friends were special to him and he openly demonstrated his Jove for them all.
