Was born Newton County, Georgia on December 25, 1925 to the late Alfred and Carine ~e-ny. On October 12, 2012, Lois transitioned to eternal rest.
Lois received her early education in Newton County. She joined Poplar Hill A.M.E. Church at a young age. In 1946, she married the late Sheard Humphrey. Lois and Sheard moved to Atlanta, Georgia to make a home for their family. Lois worked as a homemaker. Whenever there was a family gathering or barbeque, everyone wanted some of her infamous Brunswick stew.
Lois always put her family first and she knew how to keep the family together. Lois was someone that could put a smile on your face. She met no strangers and her love for everyone made her "Mother of the Neighborhood". She was known for nurturing kids that did not have any place to go. She would bring them into her home and raise them as her own.
Lois Humphrey was preceded in death by five children, two sisters, and four brothers. Her loving memories will live on with her eleven children: Artie Kilgore, Nellie Mae Ponder, Norma Kitchens, Dicine and Earnest Killum, Larry and Angela Humphrey, Gwen and Melvin McRae, Beverly Humphrey, Sharon Williams, Gregory Humphrey, Stanley Humphrey, and Stephanie Humphrey; daughter-in-law, Betty Joe Kelly and sister-in-law, Barbara Humphrey; forty-four grandchildren, forty-nine great grandchildren and nine great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Special friends, Jerome Ward, Angela Edwards, and Sheronica Rogers.
Our Lois will truly be missed!
