Dr. K.imuel A. Huggins, Jr., a native of Atlanta, Georgia, was the son of the late Dr. Kimuel A. Huggins, Sr., and Naomi Perkins Huggins. He obtained his early education at Oglethorpe Elmentary and Booker T. Washington High School in this city. He received the B.S. degree from Morehouse Collage and the M.S. degree from Atlanta University. Furthermore, he completed the requirements for the Ph.D. in biochemistry before receiving his degree in medicine from Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee.
Afterwards, he accepted a residency in Pediatrics medicine at Tulane University Hospital as well as Charity Hospital in New Orleans, La. At the time of his death Dr. Huggins had begun work with the U.S. Health Department in New Orleans.
A life-long member of Friendship Baptist Church, and a member of numerous professional and service organizations, "Kim" (as his friends called him) enjoyed many fine aspects of life: good music, sports, literature, the fine arts, and especially the sciences. Moreover, he was very fond of people, and they were very fond of him.
Dr. Huggins died on July 2, 1980. He is survived by his mother, Naomi Perkins Huggins, wife, Leslie, daughters, Beverly Ruth and Crystal; sisters, Dr. Ruth A. Dabbs of Detroit, Dr. Meriam N. Kennedy, Rosa F. Huggins; , brothers-in-law, Luther W. Dabbs and Ezekiel L. Kennedy; other relatives, Dr. Booker T. Crombie, Mrs. Eddie Page, Dewitt Perkins, Raymond Scott, Mrs. Ester Lumpkin and a host of friends.
