In the early morning hours of Friday, Augnst 30, 2013, at the Middletown Hom , Middletown, PA, the Lord called Olivia home. Olivia was born May 25, 1922, in Reidsville, North Carolina, the fifth of eleven children born to Joseph and Savannah Richmond Graves. livia was raised in the Elm Grove Baptist Church, attended Washington High School and worked in the cigar factory in Reidsville.
In January, 1946, she married Henry A. Howard Sr. This union was blessed with four children, Lillian, Henry Jr., Savannah and James.
Henry and Olivia moved to Newport News, VA, where Henry worked in the shipyard for several years. They moved back to North Carolina and lived there untill957, after which they moved to Pennsylvania, where they briefly resided with her sister Althea and brother Ashby before moving to Bressler, PA, Steelton, PA, and finally Harrisburg, PA.
Olivia joined Beulah Baptist Church, Steelton, in the early 1960's. She later joined Antioch Tabernacle UH where she erved on the Mothers' Board and attended church every Sunday until her health began to fail. She would hold the babies during church service and help fold the church bulletins whenever possible.
Olivia was employed by the Dietz Family and Karns Interior Decorators, Camp Hill, PA, until she retired. A devoted homemaker and excellent cook, she sewed, canned, made biscuits, pies and cakes from scratch for her family, friends, pastor and her church family. We will all miss her delicious cakes and pies.
Olivia was predeceased by her parents, husband, five brothers, Ashby, James, Joseph, Norris and William (Haves, and two isters, Althea Turner and Beatrice BlackwelL She leaves to honor and cherish her legacy and memory, four children, Lillian L. Carter, Henry A. Howard Jr. and hi wife Debbie, Savannah C. Howard and James F. Howard and his fiancee Aida, all of Harrisburg; three sisters, Velma Garrett and Helen Graves, both of Reidsville, and Leathea Mae Turner of West Jordan, UT; five sisters;in-law, Lorene Graves and Mary Sue Graves, both of Reidsville, Regina Graves of Baltimore, MD, Beulah Seabron of Newport News, VA, and Cleo Voss of Oxen Hill, MD; a well as seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
