LIFE OF SISTER IDA HOWARD
.Sister Ida J. Howard was born near Washington, Ga. , 'Vilkes County, March 16, 1857. Joined the Pompie-Grove Baptist Church, Wilke<s County, 1880. Moved her membership to the Oak-Grove Baptist Church near Sandersville, Ga. in 1886. From that time Sister Howard proved to be an earnest work.er and dutiful member.
It was at Oak-Grove that the First Woman's Mission Society was organized by the late Dr. A. B. Murdan, August ~89, with Sister Howard as its first president.
The organization was first organized as a church auxIliary, but on account of confusion in the state work it was converted into a Burial Society, 1893 at Tennille, Georgia, with Sister Ellen Johnson as the first president of all the Missions and Sister Ida J. Thompson (later Howard) as vice president.
After the death of Sister Johnson, Sister Howard was elected Supreme President and served faithfully for more than thirty years. At the time of her death she was serving 78 Societies with more than ten thousand members under her supervision.
