I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. John 11: 25-26
On May 27, 1926, Mr. Charlie Lee Holmes, Jr. was born in Zebulon, Pike County, Georgia to the union of Charlie Lee Holmes, Sr. and Sallie Mae Jackson Holmes.
Knowing that one day his earthly house would dissolve, Charlie started making preparations for his home not built by mans hands. As a young man he attended the Fellowship Baptist Church in Thomaston, Georgia. He later joined the band of Christian Believers at the Mt. Olive Pri.J;rlitive Baptist Church also located in Thomaston. He attended regularly for many years until his health began to fail.
Charlie met the love of his life, Miss Tenise Mae 'vValker, and married her in April of 1950. To this happy and devoted union of more than 50 years, their only child, Mary Esther was born. Esther was a loving and devoted daughter to both parents.
Charlie retired from B.F. Goodrich, Martha Mills, located in Thomaston after 38 years of dutiful and outstanding service. During that time he only missed 8 days of work. After retirement Charlie and Tensie moved to Ellenwood, Georgia to be closer to Mary Esther. They lived a sweet and happy life until Tensie's passing in 2003. His declining health required the services of Traditions Health and Rehabilitation, in Lithonia, Georgia. While there he made many friends of the staff and the residents.
On Sunday, January 7, 2007, at 11:40 a.m. our Heavenly Father called him home. There he will live forever with the Lord. Preceding him in death were his parents, Charlie Lee, Sr. and Sallie Mae, his ten siblings, Mary Alice, Leroy and Leon (twins), Shelton, Nellie Mae, Johnnie Grant, Sally Mae, Roosevelt, Adell, and Minnie Mae and his beloved Tensie.
He leaves to cherish his memory Mary Ester Holmes-Denson, Stone Mountain, GA; two grandchildren, Yolisiua Denson, Athens, GA and Matthew Charles Denson of Stone Mountain, GA; sister, Ludie Mae Chaney, Jupiter, FL; brother, 'vVillie Robert Holmes, Waukegan, IL; sisters-in-law, Dizelle Holmes, West Palm Beach, FL; Corine Davis and Carolyn McGill, Thomaston, GA; Virginia Caldwell, Decatur, GA; Mary Alice Walker, Atlanta, GA; Ruthie Lee Childs, Rebecca Searcy, Grace Thomas, Dayton, OH; brothers-in-law, Bennie Childs, Thomaston, GA and Nathaniel Searcy, Dayton Ohio; two special nieces, Clarie 'vValker Mosley, Decatur, GA (whom he reared) and Annie Flowers-Goolsby, Thomaston, GA (his loving care-giver). A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.
0 death , ~vhere is th_v sting? 0 grave , ~vhere is thy victory? The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the lmv. But thanks be to Go, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore my beloved brethren, be _ve stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as _ve knmv that _your labour is not in vain in the Lord. I Corinthians 15: 55-58
