Deacon Joseph Hill, Sr. was born to the late john Hill and Annie Henrietta Smith Hill on October 4, 1926 in Henry County, Georgia. Joseph received his early education in the Henry County School System and was baptized at the Mt. Olive Baptist Church in McDonough, Georgia.
Joseph served in the United States Navy during World War II and receiv~d an honorable discharge purple heart. He marred Mary Helen LaMarr in June 1949 and to this union two children were born: Joseph Hill, Jr. and Chada Teuila Hill.
Joseph began his career at L&K Restaurants as a grill operator. His dedication and hard work resulted in his being promoted and reached the position of Vice President of Operations. While working, he attended night school and received a degree in criminal justice. Joseph retired from L&K and began working for the Mansfield Ohio (Richland County) Prosecutors Office. He was an active member of the NAACP and held the office of President for the Richland County Branch. During his time with the Richland County Prosecutors Office, Joseph received several recognitions and awards for his outstanding work. He was a member of the National Democratic Party and a board member of the Jimmy Carter Foundation. While living in Richland County, he was an active and dedicated member of the Providence Baptist Church. After retiring, he migrated back to his roots and again became an active member of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church.
Joseph was preceded in death by his brothers, Alfonso, Hubert,
Marvin, Sr., John H. and sister, Nellie Ruth Berry. He is survived by his son, Mr. & Mrs. Joseph Hill, Jr. (Andrea), daughter, Ms. Chada T. Hill; brother, Mr. & Mrs. Willie Glenn Hill (Frankie); sister, Mrs. Vera Watson; sister-in-law, Mrs. Evelyn Hill; grandchildren, Mary Hill
Brinker, Nicole Hill, Miguel (Mickey) Hill, Sr., Alyssha Hill, Mary Ellen Hill and Aleisha Morris; great grandchildren, Christopher Joseph Brinker, Cailyn Hill, Miguel Hill, Jr., Noah Hill, Maya Morris; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
