Mrs. Bernice Logan Hicks, the second of six children, was born on November 25, 1905 in Jackson, Georgia to the late Mrs. Dovie Lummus Logan and Mr. Greene Logan.
Her childhood was spent in Jackson. After moving to Atlanta,
Georgia, she was united in holy matrimony to Mr. Arthur L.
Hicks on February 13, 1941. He preceded her in death in 1982.
Bernice was employed until her retirement by the family of Cecil Alexander for over twenty-five years as a caregiver.
Until the time of her illness, she was a devoted member of Second Church of Christ Scientists, serving as a Sunday School teacher and Lay Reader. She was a tireless and dedicated worker.
Mrs. Hicks departed this life on December 21, 2007 at the age of 102 as a resident of Bonterra Nursing Center, East Point, Georgia.
She was preceded in death by two daughters, Mamie L.
Gay and Myrtice Poole, one son, Duroc D. Hicks, and five siblings, Annie M. Dent, Rufus Logan, Lois Lovinggood, Lucille McGhee, and Lilla Head.
Mrs. Hicks leaves to cherish her memory, eight children, Ingram W. Hicks, Cincinnati, Ohio, Emily Noiles, Stone Mountain, Georgia, Arthur N. Hicks (Edith), Lompoc, California, Carolyn Terrell, Atlanta, Georgia, Ella M. Dansby, Union City, Georgia, Marie A. Tanner, Atlanta, Georgia, Harriett Hicks Johnson Mack (John), Los Angeles, California, and Henry Hicks Johnson (Billye), Ann Arbor, Michigan; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Mattie W. Lyle, Dayton, Ohio; two brothers-in-law, Chalmus Hicks, Savannah, Georgia and Marion Hicks, Springfield, Massachusetts; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-greatgrand-children, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, all of whom will miss her dearly.
