CELESTINE AGNELINA HENRY
March 31, 1929-March 20, 2016
1

Celestine A. Henry
tine Agnelina Henry, nee Archer was born on March 31st, 1924 in Glasgow Village
East Bank Berbice. She was the second of eleven children born to Mary and Samuel Archer, both deceased.
She was married to Walt~r Henry of New Amsterdam Berbice in 1949. Their marriage produced five Children: Joy Esther of Montreal Canada, Michael of Charlotte North Carolina, Lambert of Guyana, Walter of Atlanta and John deceased. In New Amsterdam she was active in the St Martins Anglican Church and Guild and also served for some time as the Superintendent of Sunday School.
In 1996 she migrated to the United States of America, spent some years in Brooklyn, New York, where she was able to enjoy the company of her three siblings- Ivy, Doris and Robert, all of whom are deceased. In 1998 she moved to Atlanta Georgia with her son Walter and his wife Persis. In Atlanta she became a member of St. Timothy's Episcopal Church and remained a member until the time of her death.
Celestine was called to eternal rest on Sunday March 2oth, 2016 after a protracted illness. In addition to her children, she is survived by five siblings: Ruby, Pearl, Sammy, Shelia and Kate. Her son-in-law Bryan and daughter's in-law Beryl, Suzanne and Persis. She had sixteen grandchildren: Arlene, Michelle, Latoya, Nikki, Marcel, Levar, Lois, Jermaine, Krisha, Pierre, Wanda, Taundi, Julissa, little Michelle, Michael Jr. Tevin and Natasha and twenty three great grandchildren. She also leaves to mourn several nieces, nephews, cousins and her friend Maxine Lewis and her son Jerel.
A special thanks to the Reverend Daniel Dice and to the members of St. Timothy's Episcopal Church.
Finally words cannot express the gratitude that we have towards our brother Walter, his wife Persis and daughter Natasha who spent thousands of hours taking care of and ensuring that our mother was comfortable in life.
May she rest in peace and rise in glory.

Liturgy ofthe Word

All stand as the Choristers and Ministers enter the church.

The Entrance Rite

All stand in silence at the Entrance ofthe Ministers into the church.

The Celebrant says

I am Resurrection and I am Life, says the Lord.

Whoever has faith in me shall have life,

even though he die.

,

And everyone who has life,

and has committed himself to me in faith,

shall not die for ever.

As for me, I know that my Redeemer lives and that at the last he will stand upon the earth. After my awaking, he will raise me up; and in my body I shall see God. I myself shall see, and my eyes behold him who is my friend and not a stranger.

For none of us has life in himself, and none becomes his own master when he dies. For if we have life, we are alive in the Lord, and if we die, we die in the Lord. So, then, whether we live or die, we are the Lord's possession.

Happy from now on are those who die in the Lord! So it is, says the Spirit, for they rest from their labors.

Welcome & the Collect for Burial

Celebrant People Celebrant

The Lord be with you. And also with you. Let us pray.

0 God of grace and glory, we remember before you this day our sister Celestine. We thank you for

giving her to us, her family and friends, to know and to love as a companion on our earthly pilgrimage.

In your boundless compassion, console us who mourn. Give us faith to see in death the gate of eternal

life, so that in quiet confidence we may continue our course on earth, until, by your call, we are reunited

with those who have gone before; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

People All may be seated.

Amen.

Reader

A reading from the Wisdom of Solomon

The souls of the righteous are in the hand of God, and no torment will ever touch them. In the eyes of the foolish they seemed to have died, and their departure was thought to be a disaster, and their going from us to be their destruction; but they are at peace. For though in the sight of others they were punished, their hope is full of immortality. Having been disciplined a little, they will receive great good, because God tested them and found them worthy of himself; those who trust in him will understand truth, and the faithful will abide with him in love, because grace and mercy are upon his holy ones, and he watches over his elect.

Psalm139

BCPp. 794

Domine, probasti
1 LORD, you have searched me out and known me; * you know my sitting down and my rising up; you discern my thoughts from afar.
2 You trace my journeys and my resting-places* and are acquainted with all my ways.
3 Indeed, there is not a word on my lips, * but you, 0 LORD, know it altogether.
4 You press upon me behind and before * and lay your hand upon me.
5 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; * it is so high that I cannot attain to it.
6 Where can I go then from your Spirit? * where can I flee from your presence?
7 If I climb up to heaven, you are there; * if I make the grave my bed, you are there also.
8 If I take the wings of the morning * and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,
9 Even there your hand will lead me * and your right hand hold me fast.
10 If I say, "Surely the darkness will cover me, * and the light around me turn to night,"
11 Darkness is not dark to you; the night is as bright as the day;* darkness and light to you are both alike.
12 For you yourself created my inmost parts; * you knit me together in my mother's womb.
13 I will thank you because I am marvelously made; * your works are wonderful, and I know it well.
14 My body was not hidden from you, * while I was being made in secret and woven in the depths of the earth.
4

15 Your eyes beheld my limbs, yet unfinished in the womb; all of them were written in your book; * they were fashioned day by day, when as yet there was none of them.
16 How deep I find your thoughts, 0 God! * how great is the sum of them!
17 If I were to count them, they would be more in number than the sand; *
to count them all, my life span would need to be like yours.
18 Oh, that you would slay the wicked, 0 God! * You that thirst for blood, depart from me.
19 They speak despitefully against you;* your enemies take your Narne in vain.
20 Do I not hate those, 0 LORD, who hate you? * and do I not loathe those who rise up against you?
21 I hate them with a perfect hatred;* they have become my own enemies.
22 Search me out, 0 God, and know my heart; * try me and know my restless thoughts.
23 Look well whether there be any wickedness in me * and lead me in the way that is everlasting.

A reading from the Revelation to St. John the Divine

I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "See, the home of God is among mortals. He will dwell with them as their God; they will be his peoples, and God himself will be with them; he will wipe every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; mourning and crying and pain will be no more, for the first things have passed away." And the one who was seated on the throne said, "See, I am making all things new." Also he said, "Write this, for these words are trustworthy and true." Then he said to me, "It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give water as a gift from the spring of the water of life. Those who conquer will inherit these things, and I will be their God and they will be my children."

The Holy Gospel

John 14:1-6

Deacon People

The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to John. Glory to you, Lord Christ.

Jesus said to his disciples, "Do not let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house there are many dwelling places. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, so that where I am, there you may be also. And you know the way to the place where I am going." Thomas said to him, "Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?" Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."

Deacon People

The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Christ.

The Homily
All stand, and the Celebrant says

The Reverend Dr. DanielS. Dice

In the assurance of eternal life given at Baptism, let us proclaim our faith and say,

6

Apostles' Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator ofheaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power ofthe Holy Spirit and born ofthe Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand ofthe Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection ofthe body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
Prayers ofthe People
The Deacon then says
For our sister Celestine, let us pray to our Lord Jesus Christ who said, "I am Resurrection and I am Life."
Lord, you consoled Martha and Mary in their distress; draw near to us who mourn for Celestine, and dry the tears of those who weep. Hear us, Lord.
You wept at the grave of Lazarus, your friend; comfort us in our sorrow. Hear us, Lord.
You raised the dead to life; give to our sister eternal life. Hear us, Lord.
You promised paradise to the thief who repented; bring our sister to the joys of heaven. Hear us, Lord.
Our sister was washed in Baptism and anointed with the Holy Spirit; give her fellowship with all your saints. Hear us, Lord.
She was nourished with your Body and Blood; grant her a place at the table in your heavenly kingdom. Hear us, Lord.
Comfort us in our sorrows at the death of our sister; let our faith be our consolation, and eternal life our hope. We ask this in the name ofJesus Christ, our Savior, Redeemer, and King. Heavenly Father, we bless you for all those who have departed this life in your faith and fear, especially our sister Celestine who worked to fulfill your will on earth through prayer and service in the Order ofthe Daughters ofthe King. Grant the light ofyour presence and the glory ofthe life beyond to be her great and everlasting reward.
Silence may be kept, then the Celebrant continues
Lord Jesus Christ, we commend to you our sister Celestine, who was reborn by water and the Spirit in Holy Baptism. Grant that her death may recall to us your victory over death, and be an occasion for us
7

to renew our trust in your Father's love. Give us, we pray, the faith to follow where you have led the way; and where you live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit, to the ages of ages. Amen.

The Eulogy

The Peace

People

The peace of the Lord be always with you. And also with you.

Michael Henry

The Peace Song
Let there be peace on earth And let it begin with me. Let there be peace on earth The peace that was meant to be. With God as our Creator A family are we. Let us walk with each other In perfect harmony.

Let peace begin with me Let this be the moment now. With every step I take Let this be my solemn vow. To take each moment And live each moment With peace eternally. Let there be peace on earth, And let it begin with me.

Then, the Ministers and the People may greet one another in the name ofthe Lord.

The people stand or kneel, and the Celebrant continues
Holy and gracious Father: In your infinite love you made us for yourself; and, when we had fallen into sin and become subject to evil and death, you, in your mercy, sent Jesus Christ, your only and eternal Son, to share our human nature, to live and die as one of us, to reconcile us to you, the God and Father of all. He stretched out his arms upon the cross, and offered himself in obedience to your will, a perfect sacrifice for the whole world.
On the night he was handed over to suffering and death, our Lord Jesus Christ took bread; and when he
11

had given thanks to you, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, and said, "Take, eat: This is my Body, which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me."

After supper he took the cup of wine; and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, and said, "Drink this, all of you: This is my Blood of the new Covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me. "

Therefore we proclaim the mystery of faith:

If you are not baptized or prefer to receive a blessing, you are welcome to come forward, thus indicating by crossing your arms across your chest. Receiving the Host: To receive the Host in the palm of your hand, simply cross our hands by resting the open palm of your right hand across the open palm of your left hand. From there, you may lift the host directly to your mouth. To receive the Host on your tongue, simply open your mouth as the priest approaches you. Receiving from the Chalice: When receiving the consecrated wine from the Chalice, gently take hold of the Chalice and guide it safely to your lips. The Lay Eucharistic Minister will not let go of it.
Intincting: To have your Host intincted in the consecrated wine, simply leave the Host in the palm of your hand for intinction in the Chalice by the deacon, who will then place it on your tongue.
