It broke our hearts to lose you But you did not go alone.. For part of us went with you The day God called you home.

Mr. Oliver Jones Henderson was born in Covington, GA to the late Mr. and Mrs. Spencer (Salema Jones) Henderson on July 24, 1946. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Henderson Wright and three brothers, Robert F. Henderson, Broxton L. Henderson and Darrell Henderson.
He graduated from R. L. Cousins High School in 1964. After graduation he joined the United States Navy, where he served 4 years of active duty and 34 years in the Navy Reserve with two tours in Vietnam. He retired from the United States Navy in 2007 with 38 years of service. He retired from the DeKaib County Fire Department in 2000 with 20 years of service. He was later employed by Spelman College for 10 years until his health began to fail in 2012.
OJ, as he was affectionately known, was baptized at Grace United Methodist Church at an early age. In his spare time, he enjoyed socializing at Dunkin Donuts and Waffle King. He never met a stranger. He enjoyed traveling, watching the world news, reading the USA Today and AJC newspapers. For his love of cooking, he was known as the "Pit Master". He had a pleasing personality and a great sense of humor. He also found great love and joy being with his grandkids.
Mr. Oliver Jones Henderson departed this earthly life on September 12, 2016. He leaves to cherish his memory; his loving and devoted wife: Mrs. Mary Hawkins Henderson; Daughters: Mr. & Mrs. Michael (Sharon) Robinson, Ms. Tanisha Hawkins and Ms. Trayca Ores; Son: Mr. Oliver Jerrell Henderson; Granddaughters: Kendyle, Kiara and Jayla; Grandsons: Bontae, Jontrell and Reginald; Brother: Mr. & Mrs. David (Edith) Wise; Mother-in-law: Mrs. Elizabeth Hawkins; Aunts: Ms. Gladys Brown, Ms. Willie Cody and Mrs. Ella Ruth Jones; Sisters-in-law: Mrs. Rosetta Henderson, Mrs. Mary Henderson, Mr. and Mrs. Johnny (Barbara) Thomas and Mr. and Mrs. Rodney (Denise) Cammon; Brothers-in-law: Mr. Jerry Hawkins and Mr. and Mrs. Tony (Nicole) Hawkins; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.
