"Serve the Lord with Gladness"
Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands Serve the Lord with gladness:
come before his presence with singing. Know ye that the Lord he is God:
it is he that hath made us and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise:

A Time To Be Born: Robert Harris, Sr. was born June 29, 1918 to the late Ed & Sarah Berry Harris in
Henry County, Georgia. He was the 4th child of their 12 children.
A Time To Grow: Robert attended school at the Mount Olive Baptist Church School House until
he was in the 6th grade. He had to drop out of school to help with the rearing of his sibling after the death of his father.
A Time To Love: Robert was committed to helping to rear his younger siblings and worked many
long hours sharecropping to support his family. He united in holy matrimony with Annie Pearl Ponder and to this union seven children were born: James E., Robert Jr., Martin {Deceased}, Hattie, Stanley, Calvin, and Spencer. Robert had three other sons, Eugene, Ernest, & John Robert. Robert loved singing and participated in quartet singing (broadcasted out of Griffin, Georgia) for many years. He also enjoyed playing baseball (Henry County Negro League) and he enjoyed swimming in his younger years. Later in life, Robert had a love for fishing and hunting. Robert was a man of great wisdom & knowledge beyond his years. Everywhere he went he was teaching and training about anything and everything. He did not have a B.S. or Ph.D. degree, but he had the highest degree that was the most important BA- Born Again!
Robert's work history included share cropping, working in the lumber industry (Lawrence Smith Planning Mill Lumber) and lead custodian for many years in the Henry County School System. All who knew him loved him including the principals, teachers, counselors, and students. Robert retired from the Henry County School System at the age of78. But his work continued at his church and with his family.
A Time To Die: Robert was a dedicated member of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church all of his life;
serving since the age of 9 until his death at the age of 90. During that time he served in several capacities at the church including being a faithful Deacon on the Deacon Board for approximately 55 years.
Whenever you met Daddy Robert or Deacon Robert he always had an encouraging word for you, a big smile on his face and a good joke to tell. During Robert's life he lived through many Presidents, The Great Depression, & many wars (WWI, WWII, Korean, Vietnam, Persian Gulf, & War on Terror) up unto this present time, he even lived by God's grace to see the election of the first Black President of the United States of America.
Robert leaves cherished memories to his wife of 65 years, Annie Pearl; nine children, Reverend James E. Harris (Sylvia), Robert Harris, Jr. (Currie), Hattie Ponder (Darrel), Stanley Harris, Calvin Harris, Spencer Harris, Eugene Turner (Tommie), Ernest Harris and John Robert (Audrey); three sisters, Emma Armstrong, Mozelle Newton (Felix), and Vera Watson. He also leaves two brothers, William Harris (Marie), and L.H. Harris; grandchildren, Michael, Jeffrey, Corey, Jamal, LeRon, Silvers, Robert III, Rashid, Curran, Christian, Marinese, Marquees, Malanda, Darrel, Jr, and Derrick; great-grandchildren, Andre, Anton, Nathaniel, Jeremiah and Deja, and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and the entire Mt. Olive Baptist Church family.
