Ernest Gwynn, son of the late Lun and Betty Watt Gwynn, was born in Rockingham County, North Carolina. He peacefully departed this life Tuesday, October 14, 1980 at Chesapeake General Hospital, Chesapeake,
Virginia. He joined Elm Grove Baptist Church as a young man serving faithfully
until illness forced him to stop, but he still had the church at heart. He was a member of the Board of Deacons and the Male Chorus. He held the distinction of being the oldest member of each. He was also a dutiful member of North Scales Street Flower Club. He was a retired employee at the American Tobacco Company.
He was a loving father, grandfather, brother, and a genuine friend and neighbor. As well as being a father to his own family, he was a counselor to many others. The decedent will be remembered through the years for his display of kindness and concern.
Lamenting his demise are: one daughter, Mrs. Bertha Mann of Chesapeake, Virginia; two sons, Ernest Gwynn, Jr. of Norfolk, Virginia and William Spencer Gwynn of Reidsville, North Carolina; one foster daughter, Mrs. Beatrice M. Griffin of Chesapeake, Virginia; one foster son, James Griffin of Chesapeake, Virginia; two sisters, Mrs. Lucille Watkins and Mrs. Betty Robertson both of Reidsville, North Carolina; two brothers, Charlie and William Spencer Gwynn both of Reidsville, North Carolina; eight grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; a host of nieces, and nephews; with many close relatives and friends.

A Father's Farewell

Do not stand at my grave and weep

I am the swift uplifting rush

I am not there. I do not sleep.

ofquiet birds in circled flight.

I am a thousand winds that blow.

I am the soft stars that shine at night,

I am the diamond glints on snow.

Do not stand at my grave and cry;

I am the sunlight on ripened grain,

I am not there. I did not die.

I am the gentle autumn rain.

I'm with you- everywhere.

When you awaken in the morning's hush,

ACKNOWLEDGMENT-
We thank our many friends and neighbors for every gesture of kindness shown during our hour of sorrow.
