PSALM 23
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want, He maketh me to lie down in green pastures; He leadeth me beside the still waters , He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name sake; Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will bear no evil ; For thou art with me; Thy rod and thy staff, They comfort me; Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: Thou anointest my head with oil; My cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

CATIIERINE HowARD GWYNN, born in Caswell County, North

Carolina in 1918, was the daughter of the late Felix and Carrie Howard.

She was educated in the Caswell County Schools having

completed high school as the salutatorian in the Class of '38.

Those who knew her were privileged to have been touched by her

warmth, compassion, and caring. Among the many, many words of

praise one could say "selfless" is most appropriate. Always, she placed

others before herself. This not only included her family but all who

needed a kind word, a hot meal, a listening ear, a shoulder to cry on) or a

gentle touch. She was a perfect mother-in-law, warm, sweet, and

beautiful. Her grandsons are as they are because of her early guidance

and love. Her patience surpassed any virtue. She was a "real" person

who never became upset.

She was a member of Red Hill Baptist Church in Ruffin, North

Carolina, prior to joining New Grafton Baptist Church in Newport

News where she was a member of the First Senior Choir and the

Missionary Society.

,

Her death on Thursday, September 1, 1994, saddened the hearts of

all who knew and loved her. She is resting now- no more pain, no more

strife. God has called His angel home.

She leaves to mourn her passing a loving husband, George W.

Gwynn, Sr.; two sons, George W. Gwynn, Jr. of Hampton and Howard

E. Gwynn of Newport News; three daughters, Carrie G. Snead of

Norfolk, Beulah M. Gwynn of Forestville, MD and Doris A. Walker of

Decatur, GA; three sisters, Beulah H. Seabron of Newport News, Carrie

C. Voss of Temple Hill, MD, and Sadie M. Badgett of Reidsville, NC;

five grandsons, Gregory Gwynn of Hampton, Gary Gwynn of

Washington, DC, Harry Snead of Portsmouth, Damon Williams of

Okinawa, and Gerald Williams of Decatur, GA; two granddaughters,

Chenita Gwynn of Forestville, MD and Alexandra Gwynn of Newport

News; three great-grandchildren, Brandon Furbee of Hampton, Kierra

Gwynn of Forestville, MD and Sean Lopez of Virginia Beach; two loving

daughters-in-law, Maxine Gwynn of Hampton and Vickie Gwynn of

Newport News; one son-in-law, Anthony Walker of Decatur, GA; many

nieces, nephews, cousins, a mother-in-law, Alice Gwynn of Yanceyville,

NC and a host of other relatives and close friends.
