Rebecca Jane King Grier was born on November 2, 1916 in Savannah, Georgia. She was one of five children born to the parents of the late Joseph Francis King and Josephine Rebecca Campbell King.
As an infant, she was baptized into the Catholic faith at Saint Benedict the Moor Catholic Church.
Rebecca Jane King was educated in the Chatham County School System and received her diploma from Beach Cuyler High School. After graduation, she attended Georgia State College in Savannah, and in 1941 received a B.S. degree in science from Xavier University in New Orleans. She was the recipient of
numerous National Science Foundation awards for continued studies at Columbia University, Hampton Institute and Atlanta University.
In 1943, Rebecca Jane and Freddie Leandrew Grier, a native of Macon, entered into the Holy Sacrament of Matrimony at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Savannah. Making their home in Macon, they joined St. Peter Claver Catholic Church where they baptized the children born of this union.
Commencing at "Old" Ballard High, Mrs. Grier taught for over three decades in the Bibb County Public School System before retiring in 1979. She was a dedicated teacher who enkindled a love for science to enhance awareness and appreciation for the magnanimity
