OBITUARY
On Thursday, July 18, 2013, the Lord sent a special Angel to Emory Hospital Johns Creek to personally escort and welcome his loving child, David Fitzgerald, Jr. to his Kingdom and David's new permanent home in Heaven. God knew his burden and granted him the gift of mercy.
David was born in Church Hill, Mississippi on November 11, 1936 to the late Virginia and David Fitzgerald, Sr. He was the second oldest of nine children and attended Holy Ghost High School in Jackson, Mississippi. After graduating from high school, he attended Tougaloo College and obtained a degree in Chemistry. He then accepted a job at a local high school in Kosciusko, Mississippi where he started to mold young minds in the field of science.
On August 12, 1956, David Fitzgerald, Jr. was united in holy matrimony to the love of his life, Helen Donerson, in Jackson, Mississippi. From this union three children were born: Diann, David and Derrick.
In 1963, the Fitzgerald family decided to pick up stakes and move to Atlanta, Georgia. David obtained a job at Murphy High School and continued his career aspiration of teaching science. After thirty-two years of service in the public education field, he retired from the Atlanta Public Schools System to enjoy his golden years traveling, watching the Braves, cooking and spending time with his family.
David enjoyed spending time in the kitchen where he cooked meals for family and friends along with making sure that you had a plate to take with you. He was a very reserved person, but was always willing to give anyone a helping hand along with a quick English lesson. He was an avid Atlanta Braves fan and enjoyed watching any type of sporting event, especially with his father.
He accepted Christ as his personal savior at an early age at Pearl Street A.M.E. Church in Jackson, Mississippi. Upon relocating to Atlanta, Georgia, the Lord led him to Flipper Temple A.M.E. Church where he later served as a Steward.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Virgie Barnes and one brother, George Caesar Fitzgerald. David Fitzgerald, Jr. leaves to cherish his memory and celebrate his life: a loving, devoted, and dedicated wife of fifty-six years, Helen Fitzgerald; a loving and devoted daughter, Diann Green, Atlanta, Georgia; two dedicated sons, David Fitzgerald III (Carla), Duluth, Georgia and Derrick Fitzgerald (Troyce), Waxhaw, North Carolina; five grandchildren; three great grandchildren; two brothers, Wendell Fitzgerald, Jackson, Mississippi and Joseph Fitzgerald, Jackson, Mississippi; four sisters, Lillie Nicholson, Atlanta, Georgia, Rosetta Fitzgerald, Atlanta, Georgia, Irma Richard (Oddie), Douglasville, Georgia, Gladys Robinson (M:elvin), Austell, Georgia; one aunt, Selena Hill Lawson, Chicago, Illinois; five brothers-in-law; one sister-in-law; a very special nephew, Thomas Barnes and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and many friends.
TO MY HUSBAND DAVID,
Thank you for sharing 56 years of marriage with me. Thank you for loving me, our 3 children and 5 grandchildren.
I have enjoyed doing all the wonderful things that we have done together. I especially loved traveling
the many places on family trips and spending time spoiling our grandchildren in the summer.
I will always cherish the memories of our life together and keep them in my heart forever.
Your Loving Wife, Helen

THE DAY GOD CALLED YOU HOME
God looked around His garden and found an empty space. Then, He looked down upon the earth and saw your tired face. He put His arms around you and lifted you to rest; God's garden must be beautiful for He only takes the best. He
knew that you were suffering. He knew that you were in pain. He knew you would never get well upon this earth again. He saw the roads were getting rough and the hills were hard to climb. He closed your weary eyes and whispered,
''Peace Be Thine." It broke our hearts to lose you, but you did not go alone; for part of us went with you the day God called you home.
