Melvin Garner Elder of Decatur, Georgia passed away on June 19, 2016 at the age of62.
Melvin was born in Annapolis, Maryland on September 10, 1953, to the late Mable Veronica Larkins Elder and the late James William Elder. Melvin graduated from the former Southwest High School in Adanta and was a 1987 graduate of Georgia State University where he earned his Bachelor's of Science degree in Marketing. He was currendy employed as a Senior Electronics Technician with Honeywell.
Melvin served his country in the United States Airforce from 1971 to 1979 and joined the Reserves after completing active duty. In 1977, while stationed at the Columbus Air Force Base (Mississippi), Melvin met and married Cassandra Gladney Elder and one daughter was born from this union. Melvin and Cassandra remained married until his death.
Melvin enjoyed playing his bass guitar and was an avid listener of music; especially the blues. He loved football, collecting vinyl records and musical instruments. His other interests included manicuring his lawn and perfecting his Maryland crab and seafood recipes.
Melvin leaves his loving memories to be cherished by his wife of 39 years, Cassandra of Decatur, Georgia; one daughter, India of Conyers, Georgia; one brother, Aimuel Ooyce) of New Casde, Delaware; one sister, Melanie of Decatur, Georgia; two nephews, David and Jonathan of New Casde, Delaware; one aunt, Mrs. Ella Crawford of College Park, Georgia; one uncle, John Larkins of Glen Burnie, Maryland; one brother-in-law, Lenwood (fsege) Gladney, Jr. of Eupora, Mississippi, nephews, Averill and Destin of Eupora, Mississippi, parents-in-law, Lenwood Gladney, Sr. and Mae Nell Gladney of Eupora, Mississippi; and a host of cousins and friends.
