Dee Gale Durham was born on April 26, 1958 to parents Mamie and Fletcher Baldwin Sr.. Although both of her parents were originally from Georgia, her Father was stationed in the Air Force at the now closed Harlingen Air Force Base. Dee, would not only be the first born of her parents but also the first grandchild on both sides of the family. Dee and her parents relocated back to Atlanta one year later following her father 's discharge from military service.
Dee considered her childhood ''unique and blessed." She, along with her brothers and sisters were able to grow up within 3 miles of both her maternal and paternal grandparents (each of whom played a significant role in their upbringing). Her paternal grandparents introduced her to the world of entertaining amidst high teas, dinner parties, fashion shows and a standing Sunday dinner. As contract bridge players, her maternal grandparents provided wonderful opportunities to travel all around the United States . Dee received her formal education through the Atlanta Public Schools system where she graduated from Therrell High School. She would go on to attend the now Clayton State University where she earned a degree in Business Administration .
In 1978, she married and had two children, Amanda Dawn and Jaison Tommie. She was later re-married Clifford Charles Durham in 1992 and they have en joyed 21 years together in Canton, Georgia. Employing her studies, Dee worked in corporate America for over 15 years untill994 when she decided to pursue a career in real estate. She enjoyed and stayed in the real estate field for the rest of her working career. She also served her community as a commissioner for the Cherokee County Housing Authority.
Dee was a faithful woman of God who loved to serve. She loved to sing in the choir, teach Sunday school to the youth and provide encouragement to the elderly, sick or shut-in. She was gifted in making everyone feel welcome in her and Clifford's home making it a natural gathering place for family and friends. When you came to their home you were always guaranteed a warm smile and hot delicious plate of whatever was cooking.
In addition to her parents, Mamie B. Cantrell and Fletcher L. Baldwin, Sr., Dee
is survived by her loving husband of 21 years, Clifford C. Durham, and her two children, Amanda D. Brooks and husband Nicholas of Atlanta, GA, and Jaison T.
Stegall of Canton, GA. She is also survived by her brother, Fletcher L. Baldwin,
Jr. of Charlotte, NC, sister, Patsi BaldwinJackson of College Park, GA and brother Steven C. Cantrell and wife Christen of Lilburn, GA. Dee was the devoted grandmother of Preston and Asher Brooks. She leaves to cherish her memory loving in-laws, aunts, uncles and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and innumerable friends .
