"The Lord is my shepherd; I
shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still
waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth
me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest
a table before
me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and
mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever. "

Mrs. Gladys James Dowdell was born on September 1, 1935 in Phoenix City, Alabama, the daughter of the late George James and Fannie Mae Jackson James.
Gladys moved to Indianapolis, Indiana at the age of 13 and lived with her aunt, the late Annie Lee Williams. She received her education in the Indianapolis Public Schools and graduated from high school.
Gladys accepted Christ at an early age. She became a member of the Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church at the age of 13. She loved her church and served faithfully. She was a member of the choir (loved to sing) and cooked in the kitchen.
Gladys was united in holy matrimony to Nathan Dowdell. To this union was born one daughter and four sons.
Gladys was employed as a School Bus Driver by the Indianapolis Public School System and she retired in 1992 after 18 years of service. She loved to cook on the grill, the best ribs, best sweet potato pies, and potato salad, the best ever!
Mrs. Gladys James Dowdell departed this life on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at the age of 78. Her parents: brothers, Gus James, Clarence 11Buddy" James, and M. C. "Castro" James; sisters, Annie {{Adde/1" Jones and Katie Jones: and daughter, Shirley J. Dowdell Thurman, preceded her in death.

"Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies... She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy ... Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come. She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness. She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness. Her children arise up, and call
her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her. Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excel/est them all. Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised. Give her of the fruit of her
hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.n
