THE OBITUARY
Robert Lee Dorsey, Jr.
Robert Lee departed this life peacefully on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at home in Griffin, Georgia. Robert Lee was born May 9, 1942 to Robert Lee Dorsey, Sr. and Louise Phinazee both of Griffin, GA. "Buddy Boy" (as he was called by those who knew him best) accepted Christ at an early age. He was a member of Red Oak Baptist Church.
He had a heart made of gold and he truly never met a stranger. His most endearing qualities were his funny outspoken personality and his willingness to always help someone in need. He will always be remembered for his jokes and his work ethic.
Robert Lee was employed with The Spalding County School System for 40 +years as a school bus driver. He was dedicated and devoted to a job he loved. He retired from Spalding County School System in 2012, after battling health issues that would no longer allow him to do what he loved. Robert was also a skilled carpenter and plumber. According to Robert, "A man that does not work does not eat." Robert was also a member of the Masonic Lodge, Griffin Chapter.
Robert Lee was a loving husband, brother, uncle, grandfather and friend who was preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife of 40 + years Viola Dorsey, brother Henry Dorsey, sister Mattie Jo Goggins and two stepsons Eugene and Timothy Coggins.
Left to honor his legacy and cherish his memory are five daughters Rachel Stroud, Peggy Richards, Harriett Coggins, Telisa Coggins, Jacqueline "Charles" Blash all of Griffin, Georgia. Four sons Robert "Jackie" Lee Dorsey Ill., of Clearwater, FL, Dwayne Tyrone Coggins, Ramon L. Coggins and Robert Hastings all of Griffin, Georgia. Two sisters Beatrice Huntley of Decatur, GA and Mary Ambles of Griffin, GA. A devoted friend Eddie "Pete" Brown of Griffin, GA. Four sister in laws Katie Humphrey and Ruby Reid of Griffin, Georgia; Annie Shannon, Mary Lizzie Walker both of Zebulon, Georgia. Robert also leaves to cherish his memory 31 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren, and a host of other nieces, nephews, friends and loved ones.
