-The Obituary-
To the delight of the late Mr. Harry and Naomi Dallas Dinkins, their eldest, Jessie J.. Dinkins
was born on June 22, 1934 in Waverly, Alabama. As a young child, Jessie moved with his family to Opelika, Alabama, where he was formally educated in the public school system.
Upon becoming a young man, Jessie remained in Opelika, Alabama with his sights set on making
a life changing move to Atlanta, Georgia. With total determination, the move to Atlanta was soon a reality.
After arriving in Atlanta and working a few various jobs, Jessie found a career he loved with the
City of Atlanta Water Works. Here he thrived, and diligently worked and soon becam~ a supervisor in the Water Department Pipeline Division.
The move to Atlanta also led Jessie to finding and marrying the love of his life, Edna Green Harvey.
With this union he lovingly gained seven children that he considered as his very own. The feelings of the seven that had been blessed with his presence in their lives were understandably mutual. Later in life Jessie became a grandfather and was affectionately called "Grandpa" by these grandchildren that adored him dearly.
In his spiritual journey, God led Jessie (and Edna) to become members of Welcome Friend Baptist
Church, where he was a faithful servant and Deacon. With pride, Deacon Dinkins had been a member of the Welcome Friend Baptist Church family for over 15 years. Here he was also well loved and respected by all. He shared very special bonds with many of his fellow deacons as well as his pastor, the Reverend Dr. John H. Smith, Sr.
For his pastime, Jessie enjoyed doing many things such as grooming his lawn, playing cards
and checkers, and being a handyman. However, all of these things held no rankings whenever there was a game being played by the Atlanta Braves. An avid and dedicated fan for many years, Jessie made sure to never miss a game and could often be heard coaching players from the comfort of his recliner whenever a wrong play had been made out on the ball field.
On Tuesday, July 29, 2014, the Heavens rejoiced when God called our Angel here on earth home to receive his wings and to suffer no more. Preceding him in death are: a son, Willie Harvey; one sister, Mary Wilson; and one brother, Ned Dinkins. Jessie will be greatly missed, but never forgotten by those that he leaves to cherish his memory: his loving and devoted wife of over 54 years, Edna Dinkins; his children, Janice Tuggle, Dora Cato, Beverly Lampley, Sandra Harvey, Ronald Harvey, and Gary Harvey; grandchildren, Willie Harvey, Elaine Harvey, Ephraim Harvey, LaChanda Tuggle, and Monique Lampley; a God-granddaughter, Melia Stephens; great grandchildren, Marcellus, Eshana, Jalen, Johnathan, Marcus, and Javion; a God great-granddaughter, Melina Hicks; siblings, Charlie (Willie Pearl) Dinkins, Ella Love, Inell (Roy Lee) "Red" Guice, Louise Pitts, and Elbert "]itt" Dinkins; sister-in-law, Annie Ruth Dinkins; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, dear friends, and the Welcome Friend Baptist Church Family.

He Only Takes The Best
God saw that he was getting tired, A cure was not to be.
1
So He put His arms around him and whispered, "Come with Me."
With tearful eyes, we watched him suffer, And saw him fade away. Although we loved him dearly, We could not make him stay.
A golden heart stopped beating, Hard working hands to rest. God broke our hearts To prove to us He only tal{es "The Best'~

When someone you love Becomes a memory,
The memory becomes a treasure...

The memory of a good person is a blessing. Proverb 10:7

May you find comfort in the arms
