OBITUARY
James L. DeLoach, was born to the late, George DeLoach, Sr. and Mrs. Rosa Dobson DeLoach in Jacksonville, Florida on June 24, 1933. He was preceded in death by his oldest sibling, George DeLoach, Jr. He was also preceded in death by his first wife Mary Smith DeLoach, mother of their four children: Roland, Anthony (Tony), Michael, and Beverly.
At an early age the DeLoach family relocated from Jacksonville, Florida to Waycross, Georgia-Ware County where James grew up and attended the public school system. He graduated from Center High School in the year 1952. Thereafter, he entered the United States Navy where he served twenty years active duty and ten years reserved duty. As James began his young life in the military, he would face many challenges and overcome many obstacles. During these early years of his career he would have to face racism, segregation, and the illness and death of his wife, leaving him with four young children.
As time went on, through mutual friends and family members Ira met this family. Soon after the family meeting, the introduction was set in motion; James would come to know Ira (Peaches) through her cooking fried chicken, hot biscuits, rice with gravy, green beans and sweet iced tea. The meal was magical, he could never stop sharing this love story with anyone that would listen.
This meal led to a marriage that lasted for forty-one years. During these years they found much joy and happiness in blending their families. There were always family gatherings and celebrations which were inclusive of all family members. It was an excellent opportunity to feast on his succulent bar-b-que ribs and chicken that didn't need sauce and all of the fixings and trimmings that went with it, prepared by his loving wife Peaches.
We all will miss this man, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather. Cherishing his memory: his wife, Ira L. (Freeman) DeLoach; his children, Roland (Linda) Smith, Anthony L. DeLoach, Michael (Brenda) DeLoach, Beverly Yvonne Dunn, Stephanie D. Watts, Deidre Marie DeLoach, and Dirk Alan DeLoach; his sisters, Mrs. Barbara Cannon and Ms. Deborah DeLoach; sisters-in-law, Mrs. Dovie (Dora) DeLoach, Betty J. Jackson, Joyce Sears, Helen Martin, Dollie Ann Freeman, Cynthia Sue (Edward) Bowen, Athena Renee Emerson, Gwendolyn Amira Freeman, and Felecia Gayle Freeman; and brothers-inlaw, Nathaniel (Mattie) Freeman, Jr., Carlton (Rosalyn) Freeman, Gregory Cornelius (Pam) Freeman, and Kevin Jerome (Diana)Freeman. His grandchildren were the love of his life: Tosha Smith, Larry Darnell Davis, Shanere DeLoach Rashad Dunn, Ahmad Dunn, Rosemary DeLoach, Tangia Smith, Tajari Smith, Keenan James Dunn, and Kale Dunn, as well as his great-grandson, Michael Navere. Also with precious memories of James are his aunts, Mrs. Irene Dobson, Mrs. Angie Dobson, and Mrs. Lillie Wilson. There are also a host of nieces, great-nieces, nephews, great-nephews, cousins, and friends.

The Oak Tree
A mighty wind blew night and day. It stole the oak tree's leaves away. Then snapped its boughs and pulled its bark Until the oak was tired and stark. But still the oak tree held its ground While other trees fell all around. The weary wind gave up and spoke, "How can you still be standing, Oak?" The oak tree said, "I know that you Can break each branch of mine in two,
Carry every leaf away, Shake my limbs, and make me sway. But I have roots stretched in the earth,
Growing stronger since my birth. You'll never touch them, for you see,
They are the deepest part of me. Until today, I wasn't sure
Ofjust how much I could endure. But now I've found, with thanks to you,
I'm stronger than I ever knew."
