Late in the evening on April 24, 2016, Miriam Burney Daniel finished her work here after 92 years and quietly went home. Miriam, affectionately known as Wissy, was born on September 10, 1923 to Alonza McDaniel and Thomasina Hunt in Marion County, South Carolina.
She later moved to New York where she received her formal education through the City of New York Public School System. She later fell in love and married the late Elmo Burney Sr. and from this union came four children.
Miriam began her professional career as a Beautician but later obtained her license in nurs1ng and became a Licensed Practical Nurse. She served dutifully for 30 years before retiring from Metropolitan Hospital in New York. During that time she was remarried to the late Adam Daniel Sr.
In her leisure, Miriam served her community as a hospice volunteer. She also enjoyed crocheting and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a dedicated member of St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church in New York until she moved back to South Carolina where she became a member of St. Louis Roman Catholic Church.
Miriam was preceded in death by her first husband, Elmo Burney Sr.; her second husband, Adam Daniel Sr.; father, Alonza McDaniel; mother, Thomasina Hunt; sisters, Geraldine Warren, Mary Frances McDaniel and Martha Thomas; brother, Albert McDaniel; and her sons, Elmo Burney Jr. and Richard Burney.
Miriam Burney Daniel leaves to cherish wonderful memories: her daughters, Beverly Maxwell and Adrienne Burney; son-in-law, Fred Maxwell Sr.; grandchildren, Jacinda Maxwell Bathea, Adrienne Maxwell, Jemel Burney, Fred Maxwell Jr., Keisha Burney, Michelle Smith, Jerrel Burney, Jeremy Burney, and David Burney; twelve great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends that she loved. She was abundantly blessed and will truly be missed.
