Do not judge a song by its duration Nor by the number of its notes
Judge it by the richness of its contents Sometimes those unfinished are among
the most poignant... Do not judge a song by its duration
Nor by the number of its notes Judge it by the way it touches and lifts the soul
Sometimes those unfinished are among the most beautiful...
And when something has enriched your life And when the melody lingers on in your heart Is it unfinished? Or is it endless?

06ituary
It was January 15, 1977, in Atlanta, Georgia, when Johnny and Paula Cotton became the proud parents of a beautiful baby boy. His mom, dad, and big sister, Adrienne were so happy when little Jonathan entered this world. The three of them, along with other family members, were very excited and he was a "joy" to the Cotton family.
At an early age, Jonathan began attending Ben Hill United Methodist Church. He graduated from the Ben Hill Preschool. At Ben Hill, he was an acolyte, a member of the Sunday school, children's choir, youth ministry, and participated in many other church activities. He continued his membership at Ben Hill throughout his life.
Jonathan, affectionately known as "Jay", attended the public schools in Atlanta, Georgia and graduated from Benjamin E. Mays High School in 1995. He and many of his classmates have remained loyal friends throughout the years. Jonathan later expanded his studies by attending DeVry University and Atlanta Technical School.
As a young adult, Jonathan recognized the value of being physically fit. He was a lifetime member of the YMCA and spent many hours in the gym exercising and weight lifting. Jonathan also enjoyed participating in various road races. One of the accomplishments that he truly enjoyed and was most proud of was competing in the Peachtree Road Race numerous times with his mother, sister, and friends.
Jonathan truly loved life and people. He often made others laugh, made friends wherever he went, enjoyed engaging in interesting conversations, and greeted everyone with a pleasant smile. V\lhen people conversed with Jay, even strangers, they walked away very impressed. He maintained his trademark sense of humor and wit all the way to the end. He was a good guy!
Like his father, one of Jonathan's main hobbies was listening to music. He loved and appreciated all musical genres, especially jazz. As a music enthusiast, he realized that music relaxes and calms the spirit and he often enjoyed quiet hours just listening and reflecting .
Along with having a magnetic personality, Jonathan represented the epitome of kindness and helpfulness. He was always pleasantly mild-mannered, kindhearted, and loyal to family and friends.
It was April 20, 2014, in Atlanta Georgia, the sun was warmly smiling on the earth, the flowers were happily dancing in the gentle breeze, and the church bells were serenading tunes of Easter joy. On this special day, God in his infinite wisdom, called Jonathan to join his earthly father, Johnny, in Heaven. Jonathan and his father were always best "buddies." The fact they are in Heaven together now brings joy and happiness to all who loved them.
A precious life has passed from our sight. .. but not from our hearts. Jonathan will forever be remembered by his loving mother, Paula Cotton; his sister, Adrienne Johnson; his beloved children, Josiah and Jonathan Cotton, Jr.; his devoted fiance, Dorothy Williams; his aunts, Norma Jean Johnson, Christine Johnson, Annette Cotton , and Norma Heard; his niece, Amber; his nephew, Austin; and countless other family members and friends who were blessed to know him.
