We have gathered today to celebrate the life of Alvida Hines Chadwick, who lived and shared her life as wife , mother grandmother, greatgrandmother, sister, aunt, nurse, church worker, friend, and a wonderfully caring human being. The daughter of the late Alvida and Pinckney Hines, Alvida "Vi", was born August 8,1923, the second child of nine childern in Wilmington, North Carolina. "Vi" was always an active church member from her early childhood years throughout life. She served faithfully as a member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Wilmington where she was a member of the choir and The Daughters of Zion. Her formal education was received at Williston Highschoolin Wilmington. After graduation, Alvida continued her training at the Community Hospital for Licensed Practical Nursing in New York. She served more than 30 years in this profession, caring and reaching out for people. AIvida married Augustus Chadwick in 1942, from that union was born their only child, Brenda Chadwick Diggs. After a brief stay in California, the family moved to New York in 1965. While there, they became members of the Bethel A.M.E.Church family. Mrs. Chadwick continued her involvment with the church and community and nuturing her family until they re-located to Atlanta. Since moving to the Riverdale -College Park area, "Vi" became an active member of the Friendship Baptist Church famiy in College Park, where she was a member of the C.J.S. Choir. Her concern, and dedication towards familyand community, prompted her to organize the Clayton County Prayer Breakfast. This organization included multi-denominational and multicultural prayer groups that worked and prayed for the spiritual restoration of the community and the family (1993 until present). "Vi" was also a member of the New Life Seniors where she thoroughly enjoyed weekly social and spirtual activities.
