~THERE WILL BE NO REPAST AFTER THE INTERMENT~

Catherine Johnson White, the daughter of the late John William Johnson and Bertha Holley Johnson, was born in Chowan County on September 12, 1932. She was called to her eternal resting place on Monday, March 20, 2017.
Catherine was raised, and attended public schools, in Chowan County. In her early years, she joined Ryans Grove Baptist Church. After getting married, she joined Warren Grove Missionary Baptist Church (WGMBC) and became involved in various church auxiliaries. As an active member, Catherine served on the Senior Usher Board, was a member of the Willing Workers, the Deaconess Board, the Ladies and Men's Auxiliary Board and the Floral Ministry. She also served for a number ofyears as the chairperson of the Church Anniversary Committee. Catherine continued to serve at WGMBC until her health no longer allowed her to attend church.
Previously employed as a housekeeper, Catherine was one of the first Carter's Ink Company Edenton employees. She joined the group in 1966 and was a member of the original group which was trained in carbon and ribbon processing at the special pilot plant. She was also a member of the Edenton Plant Safety Committee. Catherine retired from Carter's Ink/Pelikan Company in 1994.
On September 20, 1950, Catherine was united in marriage to Willie Percy White, Sr. This union was blessed with four children: Gloria Ann, Willie Percy, Jr., Kathryn Suzette and Donelton (Elton).
Catherine was a great cook. Among her dishes, she was well known for her homemade biscuits and peach and apple "jacks" (which were in high demand in the community). Catherine also enjoyed shopping and took great pride in her outfits and sassy collection of church hats.

In addition to her parents, Catherine was preceded in death by one sister, Brenda D. Lindsey, and two brothers, James E. Nixon and James W. Johnson (Buddy).
Catherine will truly be missed by many. She leaves to cherish her memories, her devoted husband of 66 years, Willie Percy White, Sr. of Edenton, NC; two daughters, Gloria White Strong (Otis), College Park, GA; Kathryn White Broadus (Steven), Locust Grove, VA; two sons, Willie P. White, Jr., Philadelphia, PA; and Donelton White, Ellenwood, GA; five grandchildren, Cayce Strong Thomas, Deon White, Candace Strong, Steven Broadus, II, and Quiyana Danyelle White; two great-grandsons, Ethan Thomas and Evan Thomas; one brother, Leondus Johnson (Shirley) of Philadelphia, PA; four brothers-in-law, George W. White, Lawrence White (Shonor), James R. White (Mary) all of Edenton; Louis White of Montgomery, AL; sisters-in-law, Cora Wiggins, Doris Overton, Carlton Griffin (Anthony) all of Edenton, NC; Birda Mae White of Jersey City, NJ, Zosima Johnson of Chino, CA; an adopted daughter, Mattie Carter of Edenton, NC; special family member, Demetria Jones Futrell of Hampton, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
God saw the road was getting rough; The hills were hard to climb.
He gently closed your loving eyes And whispered, "Peace Be Thine." Your weary hours, your days of pain,
Your weary nights have passed. Your weary, patient, worn-out frame
Has found sweet rest at last. You left a beautiful memory A sorrow too great to be told But to us who loved and knew you, Your memory will never grow old.
