Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.

The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her; so that he shall have no need of spoil.

She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.

She seeketh wool, flax, and worketh willingly with her hands.

She is like the merchants' shipsi she bringeth her food from afar.

She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens

She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard.

She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms.

She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night.

She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff

She stretcheth out her hand to the poori yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.

She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet.

She maketh herself coverings of tapestryi her clothing is silk and purple.

Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land.

She maketh fine linen, and selleth iti and delivereth girdles unto the merchant.

Strength and honour are her clothing and she shall rejoice in time to come.

She openeth her mouth with wisdomi and in her tongue is the law of kindness.

She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread ofidleness.

Her children arise up, and call her blessedi her husband also, and he praiseth her.

_ Proverbs 31 _. 1o-28

Julia Gwendolyn Amos Carter was born July 4, 1912 into the union of the late Rev. W.C. and Julia Towns Amos. She was the youngest of eight children. All of whom preceded her in death.
She was married to the late Garnett Carter and to that union one child was born, Yhonna Carter Halcomb.
At a very early age, she joined the Springfield Baptist Church under her father's Pastorate, the Rev. W.C. Amos. She served faithfully until the mid 1950's, when she made the decision to become a Member of St. Mary's United Methodist Church joining her Husband and Daughter. While an active member, she labored tirelessly in any organization that she was a part of: The Senior Choir, The United Methodist Women, serving as President, and Sunday School Teacher.
She earned a B.A. Degree from Fort Valley State College, and taught school in Meriwether, Heard and Troup counties where she was a positive influence on many children. In 1976, she retired from teaching, and became a full- time Grandmother, and a devoted caregiver to her Husband and two Sisters; whom she nursed until their deaths.
She was a Wife , a Mother, a Grandmother, an Educator, a Mentor, a Leader and a Friend. She always welcomed you with a smile. But foremost, she was a Christian with a deep abiding Faith in the Lord.

Mother:
There are not enough words to describe or enough paper to write the love I have for you. I have watched in awe and learned many things over our glorious years together. I have admired you as a Teacher; and have listened as former students tell you, how much they've learned from you educationally and spiritually.
I am very proud to be your Daughter and very happy to know that you are my Mother. For Mom, you have taught me all the things that you are: You've taught me Love for Myself and Others, Respect, Patience, Perseverance, Humility, Decisiveness, Dedication, Dependability, Courage and Peace.
I have watched, helped, cried and worried over the many years that you were caretaker, nurse, maid, and cook for my father- your husband, and my two aunts -your sisters, with no complaints. And, how for two years you slept on a sofa while caring for Aunt Vera, with no thought of yourself. And now, Mother, this is your time, and with every breath in my body, I intend for it to be a happy time.
For you are truly, A woman, A mother radiant in your later years for you've used time wisely while young. You found time to work - the price for success time to think - the sovereign power time to read- the foundation of knowledge time to pray - the way of serenity time to think of others - the road to joy time to laugh - music of the soul time to rejoice - in the good of GOD time to light the flame - of sympathy and tenderness
and in closing, Mother you have made yourself,Totally available, hear now your humble praye"' totally available to jesus anywhere. Totally available, your life with Him is sealed.
Mathe"' you will always be my lily in the valleYt but early Monday morning God picked you to be His rose. Thank you God for giving me a precious gift, a beautiful motheri today your gift comes home to you.
Your Daughte"'
Yhonna
