Mrs. Inez White Carmichael, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John White, was born May 9, 1919 in Rex, Georgia. She was predeceased by siblings: Ollie B., Edward, Wesley, John, Essie, Joseph, Ralph, George, and Annie.
As a lass, she joined the Mt. Carmel A.M.E. Church, where her mother, the late Mrs. Lottie White was a devout member. She always enjoyed representing Mt. Carmel as a delegate to the North Atlanta Districts' Sunday School Conventions. She was a faithful member at Mt. Carmel until she and her family moved from the Thomasville community in 1960. Mrs. Carmichael then moved her membership to the Turner Monumental A.M. E. Church.
She was a product of the Atlanta Public School System. At Washington High School, she was a participant in the Girls' Glee Club under the direction of Mrs. Essie Groves. According to her high school friend, Mrs. Dorothy Tigner, Mrs. Carmichael was very active in activities in high school.
Mrs. Carmichael was married to Mr. Willie F. Carmichael, Sr. Five sons were born to this union: John, James, Willie F., Jr., Raymond and Anthony. She was predeceased by her husband and her son, John. Her husband was an invalid for nine years. She personally took care of him at home and he never received institutionalized care. She also cared for her husband's grandmother who was an invalid for six years. She was active at Turner Monumental until her husband's illness prevented her from serving .
At Turner Monumental, she was a member of Choir#2, the Matron's Courtesy Guild and the Trustee Board. She was later appointed as trustee emeritus. She enjoyed so much preparing food at the church for special occasions.
In the community, she was a member of the first Civic Club in Moreland Heights and served as a community crusader for various charities.
She was very talented and was well known for baking delicious cakes. She often catered the weddings of her friends and their children. In her leisure, she was a voracious reader. She knitted, embroidered and crocheted. She made many of her clothes and was fascinated with millinery. Her creative chapeaux appeared in many modeling shows. She enjoyed taking cruises. She was an aficionado of African violets.
Forever interested in self improvement, she continually strove to further her knowledge. She received a certificate in typing from the Hoke Smith Technical School and completed a cake decorating class at the Carver Vocational School. Career-wise, she completed the core program training in In-Depth Classes of the Atlanta Public School System.

Mrs. Carmichael was a retired employee of the Atlanta Public Schools. She
served as cafeteria manager at the D. H. Stanton Elementary School. She
thoroughly enjoyed her career at Stanton.
Her personal attributes were memorable. In terse situations, she would
~.,
always say, "I stand for the right." In conflicting situations, she would always say, "I stand for peace." As a mother, she held high expectations for her
children. She believed that you can tell a tree by the fruit which it bears. She
was a lovable but firm disciplinarian and demanded respect and a sense of
responsibility from her children. Mrs. Carmichael and her husband denied
themselves many luxuries so that their children would have many enrichments
and supported them in every way that was needed for them to succeed.
She left a legacy of peace, love for her fellowman and respect. Mrs.

"When I Must Leave You"
When I must leave you for a little whilePlease do not grieve and shed wild tears
And hug your sorrow to you through the years.
But start out bravely with a gallant smile;
And for my sake and in my name Live on and do all things the same. Feed not your loneliness on empty days, But fill each waking hour in useful ways, Reachoutyourhand in comfort and cheer And I in turn will comfort you and hold you near; And never, never be afraid to die, For I am waiting for you in the sky!
