CELEBRATION OF LlFE
FOR
LaShon M. Campbell was also known as "Buttefjty" a stage name she used aS a literary artist ofthe spokenword. None ofus knew atfirst why she chose the buttefjty as her poetic name, but perhaps this is why:
The imprisonment ofthe buttefjty inside the cocoon is sometimes compared to the cru.ciflxion ofJesus- his ascension to heaven, *er going through the pain on the cross; it resembles the buttefjty when it comes out ofthe cocoon. Just likeJesus retu.rns to his heavenly home, the butteljly is able to reach the heavens with wings, the wings that it now possesses.
That is also the reason why the buttefjty is associated to resurrection, the caterpillar that belongs to the earth disappeared inside the cocoon and a being that belongs to higher realms emerged in its place.
Like the buttefjly, our precious LaShon, too, carried pollen from flower to flower using her gifted talents and knowledge to cultivate the minds of all ofthe stu.dents she had the privllege ofteaching. Like the buttefjty, she taught them to pollinate, bearing thefru.its ofher hard work and labor. She was a strong woman ofGod, a tru.e living buttefjty, who transmitted her wisdom from person to person helping them to blossom. The fru.its of knowledge she leaves in this world are seeds ofa new consciousness.
Everyone loves buttefjties - they are adorable creatu.res thatfly gracifu.lly around the garden, adding a touch of color and softness to any landscape. And so it was with our precious, "Buttefjty" LASHON. Although this is a spiritu.al symbolism ofthe Butteljty, it is sofitting ofthe kind ofperson LaShon was, so vibrant and beautifu.L She was an identical twin, born to Wylene and Walter, on December 17, 1975. Never once did they doubt that she would grow up to be the Godfearing person she was. Although she was the baby ofthefamlly, that never compromised who she was as a person.
Her love and caring spiritfor others illuminated each day in her random acts ofkindness. She had a big heart and when she was not doing somethingfor someone else, she was sharing herwisdom and knowledge by giving advice to not only her stu.dents, but to her colleagu.es and friends, as welL She was a dynamic educator whose mission was to motivate stu.dents to achieve. She loved her stu.dents and enjoyed engaging them in learning each day. She looked forward to new and innovative projects that allowed her to use her creative talents and gifts to make it happen. She was competitive, loved to challenge you in a game ofscrabble, basketball or any competition that stimulated the mind. She always forced you to think!
~-, ...~,lUL was born in Atlanta, Georgia and attended Creekside High School, where she played in the Ma1rctuJtt a member ofthe stu.dent cou.ncil and played varsity basketbalL She is a graduate of11.~runMJ

School Systems. She is a member of the Delta Sigma Theta
Like the bu.tterjly that leaves lasting impressions, she left her mark on the stu.dents, parents and adu.lts whose lives she tou.ched. She was wise beyond her years and had a strong Christianfaith that you. could easily see in her daily walk. Ben Hill UMC was her chu.rch home for many of her early years, having been christened and baptised by the late Bishop Cornelius L. Henderson, her pastor who fondly called the twins, "ZlP and ZAP"!!
She was an active member at Ben Hill UMC. She song in the Cheru.b Choir, Children's Choir, the Youth Choir, the Anotnted Voices, attended Su.nday Schoo!, Bible Study classes, participated in the Browntes, Girl Scouts, Cadets, was a youth leader/ coordinator; helped to coordinate Vacation Bible School, and assisted in implementing programs and activities for the youth, as well as participated tn youth college connection tours. Using her creative talents, she along with her twin sister, implemented a new youth ministry, UlC (Under the lnfluence of Christ) a ministry that engaged youth in interpretation of the bible through the arts, (dance, mime, music, poetry).
She laterjoined Wesley Chapel UMC and continued being an active member. While at Wesley, she along with her twin sister coordinated the Vacation Bible School for two consecutive years, drawing well over a hundred participants. ln an attempt to keep the UlC (Under the lnfluence of Christ) alive that originated at Ben Hill, she was able to carry on that ministry at Wesley ChapeL While at Wesley, her pastor, Rev. Sharma Lewis asked LaShon to serve as a youth leader. She song in the Young Adult Choir, assisted with the children's choir, was a young adultfacilitator with the UMW Retreat, and was a member ofthe membership committee; and singles ministry.
Although she never joined Laster Chapel UMC, she would occasionally attend worship services and special Christian events there with herfather. She willingly conducted numerous engaging innovative workshops and classesfor the youth, often leaving them in awe of her abilities to motivate them to want to know more about GOD. She was always a big hit with her sense ofhumor, strategtes and compasston. LaShon stayed on the Battlqieldfor the LORD!

Who are these people aU around my bed? Babies, Old ladies, men, children, so many are in my head! They are Angels watching overyou 1said, as 1sat next to my child in her hospital bed. Perplexed, tired, tmconif'ortab[e, and hallucinating [ike crazy every day, Made it dgj1ru.[tfor me to knowjust what to say. Waving and saying hello to people only she can see, Her convictions ofthem being there corifused the heck out ofme. lt seems so unfairfor a beautiful, vibrant, young Christian woman ofGod; Has to suffer [ike this when she has so much LOVE in her heart. No one knows the reasons or the origin ofher aches and pains, But with ourfaith in God we know things will not remain the same. 1sn't it amazing how things work out when you trust and believe? The devil is a LlER and will NOT succeed! 1am so appreciative that God infuses medica[ knowledge in to the doctor's minds, Critical medical decision being made sometimes before having time to re-whine. The doctors have such caring hearts, And most ofthem reaUy are smart. They have ordered one test ~er another, Oh boy, not another! Dialysis, blood work, plasma aphaeresis, CAT Scans, MR1 , and ultra sounds, So many tests make your blood pressure shoot u.p and down. The doctors diagnosed her with TIP; Now she has tiny blood dots in her eyes, she can barely see. We have caHed on the Lord each and every day. To heal her hody in a miraculous way. AU ofour Christianfriends arefasting and praying, Hea[ her right now, Lord, is what they aU are saying! We know God is the healer who makes everything alright. That's what sustains us day and night. As a MOTHER who is a true believer and knows he is real, There is no doubt in my mind that my child WlLL be healed.
