Born January 15, 1928 in Detroit Michigan, :Mrs. Bush is the daughter of the late Mr. and :Mrs. Dupree Rakestraw (Grace Jackson). The oldest of two children, she was preceded in death by her brother Dupree D. Rakestraw.
She lived and taught school in Jackson, Georgia where she met and married the late Dr. \Valter R. Bush, Sr.,Ed.D on August 17, 1952. Dr. and :Mrs. Bush were the proud parents of daughter, ZeEsther and son Walter Jr. (Ricky) and shared 62 years of marriage.
She attended \Valton County schools in her formative years during which she was an active basketball player and coach. Mrs. Bush received a Bachelor's Degree from Clark College and her Master's Degree in Mathematics from Atlanta University. A graduate of Gupton-]ones College of Mortuary Science in Atlanta Georgia, J\1rs. Bush then embarked on a second career as a funeral director. Upon the death of her mother, Grace Jackson she became the owner of Jackson Funeral Home, which had been founded and maintained as a family business since 1926. Even after her retirement from education, she ran the funeral home until her illness.
She was a passionate and dedicated teacher in many locations including Jackson, Covington, Greensboro and Dalton Public Schools. Alongside her husband, she was also the manager/owner of the Jackson-Bush farm. They enjoyed the cattle and farming business often traveling together to Cattle Auctions and Barn Sales.
Mrs. Bush was an active participant/board member in several organizations including the \Valton County Red Cross, and J oily Rogers Matrons Social Club. She was also an involved member of the Georgia Funeral Service Practitioners Association and specifically the Seventh District Funeral Directors, where she was named Mortician of the Year. She and Dr. Bush loved to attend state and national funeral directors' conventions together.
She loved life. She loved people and her family (especially those grandkids). Mrs. Bush (known as "Jackie" to her husband's side of the family) also was an active participant/organizer of the Revere Family Reunion. She enjoyed any opportunity to go down to the fishpond. She loved good food. She loved to dance, even appearing on TV teaching fans the right way to do the "dirty bird". As an avid sports fan she enjoyed football, basketball and baseball. Her Atlanta Falcons Football outings had to include a Varsity hotdog attending all home games with her family and friends, including her husband, WR and his twin brother WA and sister in law Annie Ruth, with Zee, Virgil, Janice, Doris, Cousin/Uncle Bill, Aunt Madie and brother Clarence.
:Mrs. Bush was deeply rooted in her faith and always found a church home wherever she lived, including Israel Temple CME Church ,Jackson, GA, Bethel AME Church, Dalton, GA, and Green Mount United Methodist Church, Barnesville, GA.
