Reverend Otis Benjamin Burnett, Jr. was born January 1, 1923, to Rosa Rutland and Otis B. Burnett, Sr. in Macon, Georgia. He moved to Atlanta when he was 7 years old and attended an Atlanta Public Elementary School and eventually graduated from Booker T. Washington High School.
In the years to come, he would be drafted into the Army and fought in World War II from April1942 to his honorable discharge in December of 1945. Upon returning from the War he would meet his beloved soul mate and wife to be Jennie Butler, they were married in June 1946. To this union three children were born Denise, Otis III and Bernard, which began a new chapter in his life.
During this time Otis began working for the United States Postal Service, he attended Clark College and Turner Theological Interdenominational Theological Center. His Life was filled with many accomplishments; he was a member of the of the Masonic Brotherhood A.D. 1988 A. L. 5988, M. W. P. H. Grand Lodge, F & A.M. Jurisdiction of Georgia, X.L. Neal, G.M.; a Local Representative in the America Postal Workers Union (APWU); on January 21, 1948, Otis became licensed to preach the gospel; and on December 7, 1949, he was ordained to the Christian Ministry by Dr. Martin L. King, Sr. and was rewarded with an extensive ministerial career.
He began ministering as an Associate Minister at Ebenezer Baptist Church, from there he was Assistant Pastor with Philadelphia Baptist Church, he then went on to Pastor Cole Street Baptist Church for 9 years and he ended his church ministry at Shady Grove Baptist Church in January 2009 after 37 years of service. After 44 years of service with the U.S. Post Office, he retired on November 29, 1990.

Reverend Otis Burnett, Jr. departed this life on Sunday, December 16, 2012 at his home. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years Mrs. Jennie R. Burnett and sisters Lucy Fortune, Sarah Bradley, Carrie Cowan Thomas, Emma Virginia Burnett, Alberta Burnett Aaron and Kathryn Burnett Daniels. He leaves to cherish his memory his children, Denise D. Burnett, Otis B. Burnett, III and Bernard A. Burnett; daughter-in-law, Priscilla P. Burnett; grandchildren, Martina Crawford (Antione), Dr. Otis B. Burnett, IV (Kim), Wayne T. Brown, Jr. (Tamesha) and Rev. Christopher P. Burnett (Damarys); great-grandchildren, Xavier Brown, Niobe Crawford, Braxton Burnett, Bryce Burnett, Madison Brown and Baron Burnett; siblings, David Burnett of Riverside, California, Bessie Burnett Walker, Evangelist Margaret Cummings and Odes Burnett (Rebecca) all of Jacksonville, Florida, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
