Mr. Thurmond Burdette Sr. was born February 6, 1950 at Grady Memorial Hospital to Dorothy Burdette in Atlanta Georgia. He attended G.W. Carver High School in the late 60's and later became an employee for the city of Atlanta. He worked for the city of Atlanta until2006 where he retired with 36 years of service. He was a community coach for Stanton Park in People's Town for several years mentoring several young men over time. Thurmond Sr. was also an avid Carver High School football fan. He attended almost all of Carver football and basketball games since he left Carver in the late 60's up until Carver's last football season in 2012. Thurmond Sr. also loved checkers and playing cards with family and friends at his home. He was a loving and devoted family man that would give the shirt off his back.
On July 5, 1970, Thurmond Sr. was united in marriage to Ruby Lee Morris, and to this union four sons and one daughter were born. Thurmond cherished his family as well as his extended family and friends.
Thurmond Sr. accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at Greater Mt. Calvary at an early age, and later changed his membership to Saint Peter Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Eric V. Thomas.
He leaves to mourn his loving wife: Ruby Lee Burdette, four sons and one daughter: Rodrick K Burdette, Thurmond Burdette Jr., Marquez D. Burdette, Carlus A. Burdette, Siobhan N. Burdette. Two brothers: Samuel Burdette and Reginald Walker, Four Sisters: Triffon Walker, Gwendolyn Walker, Jackie Walker, and Hawaii Walker. SL"(teen grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, cousins, nephews and friends.
