Clyde Charles Bryant was born on May 29, 1927 to late Mr.
Charles Bryant and Mary Jones in Chicago, Illinois. He was the oldest of six children. He grew up in the historic Morgan Park Community and attended John D. Shoop School and graduated from Van Vlissingen Elementary School. He was a graduate of Edward Tilden Technical High School and later attended Wilson Junior College. Clyde was inducted into the United States Army where he proudly served for two years, receiving the victory medal and an Honorable Discharge.
Clyde married Mildred Durr on June 14, 1959. To this union two beautiful daughters were born: Diane and Alicia. Clyde was also the proud grandfather of three boys: James, Jacob and Joseph of Naperville, Illinois. He worked as an apprentice for 20 years at Cuneo Press. In 1961, he became a U.S. Postal Worker, where he retired after 32 years of service.
The words that best describe Clyde are "He was a Christian." He began his Christian journey at Mount Joy Baptist Church. Although he had attended for many years, he officially joined Beth Eden Baptist Church at the age of 15 and was baptized. Clyde was a faithful servant who truly loved the Lord and all of God's children. He had been a Sunday School teacher longer than most people can remember, serving as the Superintendent of the Sunday School for 18 years. Clyde knew the Word and applied its scripture in the most appropriate manner. He was a mentor to many, volunteering his time for the Good News Club Ministry, Older Boys and Girls Conference, Vacation Bible School, and the Sunday School Superintendent's Council. Brother Bryant, as he was called, knew the "Word" and he lived the "Word." He was always available to lend a hand, whisper a prayer, teach a class or encourage the troubled. As the book of James implies, he was not only a reader of the word, he was a doer of the word.
His love for God and the life he led was a testimony to others. The Bible reminds us in Galatians 5:22-23 "But the fruit of the Spirit
is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law." Clyde was blessed with many talents and gifts and the fruit of his spirit shone brightly every day. As Clyde delivered his mail he also delivered the gospel to all that he would come in contact with. It appears that everyone who worked with or was around Brother Bryant also knew of his love of Jesus Christ. As many of his customers on his route came to know Clyde, they came to know of Jesus.
On Friday, September 16, 2011 at 11:30 pm Clyde answered the Lord's final call. He was preceded in death by his father Charles Bryant, his mother Mary Jones, his stepmother, Lillian Bryant, and two brothers; Herbert and Herman Bryant.
He leaves to cherish his memories his loving and devoted wife of fifty-two years, Mildred, two daughters Diane Sampson (Jamie) and Alicia Swary (Outnaru), three grandsons: James, Jacob and Joseph Sampson, one sister Ernestine Dixon (George) , two brothers Earl (Florence) and Preston (Sandra) Bryant, one brother-in-law, Lawyer Durr of Chicago, IL, three sisters-in-law, Shirley Hammonds of Kalamazoo, MI, Estelle Bryant of Baltimore MD, Ira Durr of Dallas, TX and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
The Strength of a man consists in finding out the way God is going, and going that way.

To My Darling Husband:
The love of my life. Thank you for sharing your world with me. I am so grateful for the ups and downs, the good times and the bad. You loved me with the love of Christ and I couldn't have met a more wonderful man than you. I miss you more than words can say but I know that you are resting in the arms of God. Be at peace dear husband.
Your loving wife, M/ared
Dad I am so proud to be your daughter. You were a living example of "what would Jesus do/" You faithfully read the bible at the kitchen table every morning before work and every evening before bed. The best thing about your faith was that you lived it each day. No need to overpower others with the Word-- you demonstrated by example. Not once do I ever remember you yelling or losing your temper with me or anyone else. Even in sickness, when I know you felt bad, you would simply say "I'm not too good today" or "I'm not quite feeling up to par". The spirit of God was present in everything you did. I'm glad I had the opportunity to tell you that "I hope I can raise my children and be the kind of example for them that you were to me." I thank God for blessing me with a father like you. I hope I can be a faithful servant and example to others just like you.
To My Dad, You were my best buddy. Thank you for always being there to listen, to share your wisdom and to teach me about the word of God. I now can appreciate your steadfastness and unwavering faith. The Bible says in Proverbs 22:6 to "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it." I will never forget all you have invested in me, especially your love for Christ. I love you and miss you very much but I know that I will see you one day again soon. Alicia
Clyde, Herman, Earl, Herbert, Preston, & Ernestine Papa we've had great times with you that we will never forget. We remember coming over to your house and having checkers tournaments and talking about football. You took us to the park, the bookstore, and convinced us that raking your leaves for five dollars would be good money for us. We had great times with you at Thanksgiving just sitting down to eat, talk, and enjoy each others company. Papa you made up the cheesiest jokes ever, they were so terrible we had to laugh. Papa we love you. You are awesome!
