MEGOING CELEBRATION
FOR
FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER2, 2011
11:00 AM
FAIRFIELD BAPTIST CHURCH
6133 REDAN ROAD LITHONIA, GA 30058
REV. MICHAEL BENTON, PASTOR
OFFICIATING BISHOP SEDGWICK DANIELS BISHOP JOHNATHAN ALVARADO

Mary Lee Broughton entered this earthly realm on March 20, 1935. She was the only child born to the union of George and Rosa Lee Mapp. On Monday, August 30, 2011, Sister Broughton transitioned to the next realm of life where she found everlasting joy and peace awaiting her.
"Ma Mary", as she was affectionately called, was educated in the public schools of DeKalb County Georgia. An entrepreneur and a woman who was faceted in many areas, Mary was a licensed cosmetologist, a certified realtor, a travel agent, as well as the director of her own daycare center. She was employed with BP Oil, DeKalb County, as well as Antioch Baptist Church of Lithonia, Georgia.
A lover and promoter of gospel music, Ma Mary directed and taught choirs throughout the local community, arranged and conducted gospel workshops, and organized local and national choir tours. Ma Mary also served as one of the directors for the Atlanta Masonic Choir, as well as a board member for Creative Gospel Incorporated (CGI), the organization that sponsored the National Black Gospel College Choir Workshop.

The Life of
Mary Lee Broughton
Ma Mary accepted Christ at an early age and joined Fairfield Baptist Church, where she remained a faithful member for over 65 years. At Fairfield, she served on the Deaconess Board, served in the Human Resources Department, and served on the building team for the Michael Benton Life Center. Ma Mary was active in organizing the Youth Department at Fairfield Baptist Church, which resulted in the Fairfield Youth Choir. The Fairfield Youth choir eventually evolved into the Young Adult Choir, which is now New Vision.
Ma Mary was definitely one that loved and cherished her family. She and William "Daddy C" Broughton fell in love and were married in 1951. To this union, six children were born Teresa, Terry, Kenneth, Tony, Kelvin, and Bernita. Raising their children in a Christian home was of utmost importance. A powerful matriarch, Ma Mary also encouraged family unity and through good food and fellowship. This was shown through the Broughton Family's "First Sunday Dinners", an on-going tradition that began with Ma Mary's mother, "Ma Rosa" over 60 years ago.
"Ma Mary" was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, William "Daddy C" Broughton, and her oldest daughter, Teresa. She leaves to cherish loving memories to five sons, Terry (Barbara), Kenneth (Shirley), Tony (Andreana), Kelvin, and Bill (Maxine); and one daughter, Bernita "Pie" (John); one sister-in-law, Julia Tennant; one cousin, Francis Anderson; 19 grandchildren, April, Amaris, Theodore, Shadonna, Darius, Kelsie, Jared, Licarus, Armond, Shanice, Fatimah, Bryan, Bashan, Krislyn, Kyron, Kyla, Kennedy, John Ill, Jocilyn; 18 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

I will not question why you're gone I'll be glad for the time we shared; I'll keep close to my heart those important things And remember just how much you cared.
I will try to install those values and qualities In those I love and know,
Because most of these things are taken for granted, And seemed to quickly come and go.
No great education, but great pride and strong belief In those things you actually knew.
And honesty and a child-like innocence, That just grew, grew, grew.
Not a wealthy person by any means, But you gave me things of great wealth; Like a love for the simple things in life,
And the appreciation of good health.
Most of all your love for God, And what you knew Him to be, How you would raise the hymn of your favorite "Old Songs", And pray with utmost sincerity
I'll remember how you trusted in Him, Knowing He would make a way,
So I'll set my sights on things above Living to see you again some day.
I'll remember how much I love you More importantly how you loved me. I'll seek after those things that are right and true, So, like you, the Savior's face I'll see.
