Today God brought us together to give thanks for the life of Mr. Jim Henry Bridges. We pause for the love, joy, heartaches, and happiness that was ours to enjoy during his earthly life. For this cause, we give praises and glory for these rich experiences.
Jim was born January 13, 1944 in Atlanta to the late Mr. Major Bridges and Mrs. Bennie Lou Bridges. Jim lived his entire life by the mantra "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." Jim, affectionately known as "Tommy" by family, was a man who loved God. He accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of the Mount Moriah Baptist Church as a teenager. He later joined the West Oakland Missionary Baptist Church , where he remained a faithful member.
First and foremost, Tommy was a devoted father, loving brother, generous uncle and a special granddaddy to Nnenna. Family meant everything to him. Tommy was a giving man. He constantly supported his family and friends. He served in the United States Army and was a longtime supporter of the Christian Children's Fund . He was the father of an adopted daughter in Africa (Lydia) and the surrogate father to many of nieces and nephews. There are many reasons why we love and admire Tommy, for his kind spirit, his loving nature, his humanitarianism, but mostly because he was a God fearing man who lived his life as God would have him to live.
Tommy departed this life on August 30, 2002. He is survived by a son , Tommy McClure of Atlanta; 4 sisters, Lelia Johnson, Susie Adams, Delores Thurman , all of Atlanta, and M, Jewell (James) Reid of College Park; 4 brothers, Willie Bridges of Los Angeles , CA, Aaron Bridges of Tampa, FL, Ted (Mary) Bridges, and Rufus (Ann) Bridges both of Atlanta; Granddaughter, Nnenna Scott and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
"Sunset an evening star and one clear call for me. May there be no mourning when, at last I'm at rest and peace."
We will never forget you .
