Onl Whyte.._._. was bom in Gwinnett County, Georgia on July 13, 1918 to the late Leroy
and Mattie Dye Whyte. She departed this life on April 10, 2007. Ora and her yoooger brolher, Wllam Franklin -sill( Whyte (who also preceded her In death)
grew up in the Pelasylvallia mDlg town of Beaver Fals. They both excelled in academics and were active in runemus sports activities.
Although Ora 00118idered cosmetology as a career while a student at Beaver valley High, she received a scholarship to aa.t Colege in Atlanta, Georgia. To supplement her expenses at Clark, Ora worked at the AstDf Thealre 88 a popcorn attendant It was there .that she met a handsome Tuskegee Airman and Uncoln University graduate, Horace A. Bohannon. The couple wed on November 7~ 1943 Md their Irion lasted nearly sixty years, until Horace passed In May, 2003. They were ~ to be a ble asing' to their three children, Bruce, Bonnie and Cathy.
Ora received the Bachelor of~ degree from Clark Colege in 1945. She was assigned to her first teaching position E. P. JOhnson Elementary School by Superintendent, Bazoline Usher. A
nurturer by nature, Ora taught schOol in the Atlanta POOiic School system for over thirty years, rarely
missing a day of work She was known for her artistic creativity, elegant attire, crisp diction and
poise.
Ora was a steadfast charter member of St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church for over fifty years. She served in many leadership roles including President of the Women's Society, President of the
St. Vincent de Paul Society, rnermer of the Pastoral Council and was a recipient of the Trail>lazer
Award in 1999.
Afaithful Clarkite, Ora was active with the Clark Atlanta Alumni Association. In 1997, she received
the Alumni Service Award for oulstanclng serviCe to the university. Ora was a diligent servant-leader for the annual ~Weekend Comrnitlee" in conjunction with the graduation activities. She looked
forward to coordinating 1he aouvenir jcunal as she was extremely proud of her school's growth and
vitality.
She also helped to raise flllds for the Annual Arts Scholarship Program by way of the Clark Atlanta University Guld.ln May, 1995, she was honored with the Golden Sons and Daughters Award as a fifty year alurnri member.
Always striving for the exira rnle, Ora served as one of the charter members of the Pi~ Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa~ Sorority, Inc. In December 2005, she was recognized at the chapter's
twentieth anniversary catebndion for her efforts and commitment as the first basileus. Among Ora's earlier i1lerasls and aftilialions were serving as secretary for the Holy Family Hospital

In later years, Ora became aclive with the Jolly Bunch Golden Age Club -1he group with appeal! Her greatest joy was to spend quality time with her close-knit family. She was an intergenerational hc'sta as: she not only loved to socialize with and entertain her friends, but those of .her chldran and graldchildrela, 88 wei. She had the God-given abHity of connecting with people.
Aloyal dal9Dr and sisler, dutiful wife, loving and dedcated mother and grandmother, and teacher of high standards-these are some of the components that defiledora.
She leaves to cherish her memory, son, Horace A. -sruce Bohannon, Jr.; daughters, Bonnie
Bohannon Gissendanner (a.aton) and Cathy Bohannon Hope (Marvin); granddaughters, Cathy Cloud Robinson (Stephen), Caren Cloud Barnes (LaVerio), and Jasmine Ayanna Hope; great-
grandchildren, Stephen Eric Robinson, II, Taylor Elayne Robinson, and Kennedy Elizabeth Robinson; nieces, Darice Whyte Gamble, lona Bohannan Andrews, and Sandra Bohannon Dolphin; nephew,
