Ruby Vera Boddie was born Ruby Vera Flournoy, the first of eight children to Esther and Curtis Flournoy in Fitzgerald, Georgia. Her mother Esther was the daughter of Kate Williams ofAlapaha, Georgia. Besides her mother, Kate or "Mama" was the biggest influence in Ruby Vera's life because she taught and modeled for young Ruby the practical aspects of common sense and the significance of being a genuine human being, or as Ruby Vera put it, '!Being real!" While Ruby was still a young girl, her family moved to Atlanta, Georgia.
Ruby Vera grew up in Atlanta where she attended BookerT. Washington High School. After
high school, she met and married Julian F. Boddie, Jr. of Milledgeville, Georgia. The young
couple moved to Milledgeville where they reared their five children. Mrs. Boddie was a loving and committed wife and mother. In addition, she managed several successful entrepreneurial ventures, including millinery, cosmetics marketing and consultation, and etiquette consultation for surrounding schools. Her professional modeling career earned her national exposure in Jet Magazine as a participant in fashion/fund raising galas sponsored by the NAACP.
Mrs. Boddie, a fierce devoted mother, devised a successful plan that allowed her son to escape false imprisonment in Mexico. She received national attention for her ingenious plan and refused a movie offer stating that, "God spoke directly to me and told me how to rescue my son. I cannot receive money for this."
Years later, she returned to Atlanta and was recognized as the first woman to work as a check ramp agent for Delta Airlines. She retired from that position after fifteen years of service. For the last several years of her life, she served as a voting precinct supervisor for Fulton County.
Always the life of any gathering, she never met a stranger. Her polished and chic attire was legendary, and it announced the presence of a very sophisticated lady. When she entered a room, the energy became charged with her vibrant presence, which was laden with profoundly wise and often humorous anecdotes. When she spoke everyone listened, especially young people who sought refuge in her company because of her wisdom and pragmatic advice. In addition, her close friends, many of whom Ruby had known since childhood, respected and adored her for her sound counsel, her unfailing support, and her astute business sawy.
Mrs. Boddie was a fiercely and uniquely independent and strong-willed woman. She maintained her own home, drove her own convertible sports car, and was totally self sufficient in every way until the very day she easefully left her body while at the College Park, Georgia home on Thursday, December 14, 2006.
Mrs. Boddie is survived by her children, Rita Owens, Debra B. Pearson, Julian F. Boddie, Ill
(Sharon), Patrice Boddie, M.D., and Royce Boddie (Nekeisha); four sisters, Agatha Allen, Glenna Flournoy, Florrie Bentley, and Clarice Green; two brothers, Royce Flournoy and Jimmy Flournoy (Jackie); grandchildren, Mustafa Davis, M.D., Jade Pearson, Nikki Boddie, Sage Owens, Michael Owens, Kiandra Roberson, Royce Boddie, Jr., and Ajah Boddie; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family members and friends.
Preceding her in death were her beloved husband, Julian Franklin Boddie, Jr., a beloved sister, Betty Fulton, and her gracious parents, Esther and Curtis Flournoy.

Please don't say that I gave up, Just say I gave in.
Don't say she lost the battle, For it was God's war to lose or win.
Please don't say how good she was, but that she did her best.
Let's just say she tried to do what's right, To give the most she could not to do less.
Please don't give her wings, that's for God to do.
Don't be concerned about her now. She's well with God She's made it home.
Don't talk about what could have been, It's over and it's done.
Don't just remember good times But remember some bad.
For life is full of many things. Some happy and some sad.
Thank God for her soul's resting. Thank God for she's been blessed.
Thank God for all who loved her.
Praise God who loved her best

Ruby was my dear loyal friend, my confidante and the sister I never had. She loved me unconditionally and I could do no wrong in her eyesight. On occasions, I felt she gave me more credit than I deserved. When we were in our youth we took each other for granted but in our waning years we would end our lengthy conversations with "I Love You ." Her last call to me before she took her journey to her heavenly home was Wednesday, December 13th at 12:55 p.m.
Ruby had enough faith to trust, enough hope to make each hour shine, enough love to share others needs, enough joy to plant magic seeds and enough love to walk with you though days may tum to night.
Sleep peacefully dear sister until we will join each other again .

That's Ruby Boddie! Glamorous, Classy, Modern, Chic
Dedicated to her family, Committed to her friends.
That's Ruby Boddie!
Loving, Resourceful, Determined and Dependable... That's Ruby Boddie also.
There are no words to adequately describe the Blessing God created
When He made Ruby Boddie. But we know her Strong, Unforgettable Spirit And thank God for the Beautiful, and Unique Woman
We were blessed to behold.
We love you , and we'll miss you , Ruby,
Helen Jackson and Saundra Shirley
rr.slie Was rnijferent"
She was different, she was special
Unique in a thousand ways,
She was giving, she was loving, And we'll miss her all our days.
She knew sorrow in great measure And was stung by illness, too. But neither could defeat her, Nothing her faith subdue.
Her legacy was friendship She was so giving of her time, Her bequest was her faith in God, Her family, and all mankind.
And so instead of mourning As we remember her this hour, We really should be celebrating
The blooming of a flower.
Because you see She was different, she was special
Unique in a thousand ways.
She was loving, she was giving And we'll miss her, miss her, all our days.
