OBITUARY
"What we have once enjoyed we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes a part ofus. "
Helen Keller
Edith Y. Biggers was born August 13, 1925 in Atlanta, GA to James Young, known as Garfield and Sallie Myrtle Young, affectionately called "Miss Myrt" by family and friends. She was the middle child and only girl in a family of three children.
She graduated from David T. Howard High School, and received a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Clark College in 1957. She continued her education at Atlanta University where she received her Master of Science in Biology in 1963 .
Mrs. Biggers started her teaching career at English Avenue Elementary School, and in 1968 she began teaching biology and photography at Brown High School. After Brown High School closed, she transferred to Booker T. Washington High School where she continued to teach biology. She retired from teaching after 38 years of educating students in the Atlanta Public School system.
She faithfully attended the First Congregational Church of Atlanta, Georgia, where she served as a Trustee for many years. Her hobbies included gardening, photography, traveling, and financial investing. She was dearly devoted to her alma mater, Clark College which became Clark Atlanta University (CAU) in 1988; she remained a major donor until her death. She also served for many years on the Board of Directors at the Atlanta Teachers Federal Credit Union.
At 3:15am on July 15, 2013, the Lord sent an angel to guide Mrs. Biggers in her transition from this earthly life to her eternal home. She leaves to cherish her memory one daughter, Dr. Edith Euelette Biggers of Atlanta, GA; her niece, Sharon Reese, R.N. of Stockbridge, Georgia; and a host of other nieces and nephews. Euel, her husband of 24 years, her parents, James and Sallie Myrtle Young and two brothers, Russell and Jack Young, preceded her in death.
