On November 12, 1914 a voice was heard. Joseph Edward Barton born the fifth of seven children to the late Plez and Onie Barton. Joseph spent most of his early childhood in Bartow County where he earned the nickname "Shorty".
Shorty accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savoir at an early age. He served faithfully at Marietta Baptist Tabernacle, now known as Western Hills Baptist Church. He moved to Cobb County in the early 60's where he was employed by Crains M&M. He worked under the leadership of James Houston at Crain.s M&M for over 30 years until he retired.
Shorty departed this life on Friday July 30, 2004. He leaves to celebrate his life and cherish his memory: wife, Mary Frances Barton; daughter, Frances Wise; son Larry (Mary) Barton; daughter, Debra (Walter) Dobyne; son Randy Barton; son Donald (Lawrencine) Barton; son James (Helen) Barton; Ten grand-children, Eight great grand-children; Two surviving Sister In-Laws Savannah Benson (Youngtown, Ohio), Ruby Wise (Attalla, AL.), a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, beloved friends and loved ones.
